The Toyota Emasculator minivan served us well.

Oh lord no, I have the GLS 550 so I don't need a Minivan.

First, congratulations! We've survived the growth of both our sons to what passes for adulthood these days with more love and praise than any negative feelings (on both sides, I presume).  Of course, the first 35 years were the hardest!  Now that they're both well past that, we wear our rose colored glasses with impunity :)

No one has any idea how to be a dad - parenting is entrusted to rank amateurs. There's no education, certification or licensing.  There are no owners' guides, shop manuals, parts diagrams, or warranties. But somehow, most of us make it through the gauntlet with our basics intact.  Enjoy every minute of the experience from the beginning.  It's truly something you'll treasure with your SO - if your relationship is sound, the collective experience will bind you even closer.  I hope you achieve the true and lasting joys my wife and I found in our first decades together. We're in year 47 and looking forward to 47 more (which will be even better because both kids are off the dole).

Thank you, that's a very nice thing to say. Our relationship is sound and only trending upwards! I am looking forward to a long life with her.

Emily King--WOW--thanks for the tip!  Just ordered the new CD and about to buy a pair of tix to see her in Cambridge.

Good luck with your expanding family--in just a few years you can take your "baby" to concerts--you'll drag her to Emily King, she'll drag you to Taylor Swift. You'll have a blast at both....That's love!

A couple of my nieces already helped me shake it off! 😉

@AudioDoctor Ditto congrats very happy for you-I got out of ED 32 years ago for same reason now am essentially a concierge MD for my now small private practice

Instead of that Porsche start saving- have you even looked at college tuitions? I am still in practice because I love it but also because 4 kids cost me 600000$(all at StLawrence University and the last one graduated in 2006!)) plus the Princess's wedding but I have a son and daughter in law who were both D3 golf All Americans - and they are still trying to straighten me out to no avail! The other 3 are doing just fine also-they ALL took me and the CFO to Pebble Beach(ALL expenses including the Inn at Spanish Bay) last year for my 70th not a bad thank you Dad&Mom.

Thanks for all your advice and help over the years and don't you just LOVE Qobuz and ROON? Am listening to 624 tracks of Qobuz playlist of the Dead/Jerry with others/Dylan/The Band solo and with others in HiRes/STUDIO and my ME2 shows 2 LED's for the 24/96 and 24/192 recordings(??'pseudo' MQA??)

best wishes to you BOTH

Well, I probably wont be buying a new Porsche anytime soon, but a house, yes. Sometime I need to talk to you about your practice, I think there is a real market for that kind of a practice and wouldn't mind picking your brain. You're welcome for the help, I try if I can and yes, I am loving ROON and Qobuz! Best idea ever was to put the two together!

Ah college... the perpetual expense. I am doing my part and voting for politicians that think college should be free at all Public institutions. I suppose we should start saving as well. I went on an ROTC and an Academic Scholarship many years ago, and my SO went on an Athletic Scholarship, both to public schools. However, I don't want my kids to be going into the military so I better hope we have some great and smart athletes!  Or I could start saving...

Thank you for the best wishes, I appreciate it.

And here's some sage advice about that subject: never, ever, ever discuss with your SO what your kids' education(s) will / did cost.  The number will harsh your mellow, no matter how good the wine was that got you started on the discussion. You'll both end up figuring out the exchange rate between dollars and "the things you used to love", and you'll have the worst hangover you ever had the next day. This discussion is especially discomfiting for those of us whose entire college and professional educations totalled less than $40k including medical school - and it doesn't even make you feel any better that the adjusted value of that $40k today is about $400k.

We put two through private school from K4 to 12. Then they each earned a bachelors' degree, plus a masters for one and an LLD for the other, all from Brown and Harvard.  But most importantly, they learned early in life the meaning and importance of SQ.

Everyone in my family, except me who went to a Public school, went to a private college. And they were good ones too. I am well aware what they cost.  I don't know how much it will cost at some point in the future, or when we will be talking about it, but I am sure it will be money well spent when the time comes.

ha.

ses what MN has re tax advantaged plans for college savings - no need to start right away of course, but starting soon helps; it gives you the all important "time in the market"

I already have a really good financial guy who is on top of that.

Free? Public Universities are terrible money managers. I know as I used to work at UCLA. Making them free shifts all of the cost burden to tax payers. Many of whom will never have a child enter the public University system for the state they live in. That is not fair and reeks of Socialism.

How big is UCLAs endowment?

Is it part of a system?

I know the U of Michigan has an Endowment in the tens of billions...

edit: 11.9 Billion according to Google, and yet... I don't know if that is per year or for the entire 4 years. When I attended as an out of state student Michigan was the most expensive State School in the country and even with two scholarships I still had debt when I graduated. Mostly for housing.

In my haste I left off the part saying now that we've covered the unborn fetus.  Let's talk about your baby.

Sounds exciting and dull all at once.  Not much hijinks to be had in US airspace these days even if that baby could smoothly be put through stomach turning maneuvers.

The operating manual specifically prohibits any aerobatics maneuvers...
