Popular Post tmtomh
Of course I am totally with @The Computer Audiophile on this and think Jeff Dorgay's response is way out of line. That said - and I am NOT blaming Chris in any way here - I can see where the exchange went off the rails. Dorgay feels Chris is taking advantage of RSS as a "loophole" and quickly got frustrated at what he probably perceived as Chris' uncollegial refusal to stop publishing TONE Audio's RSS feed. Dorgay's escalation is his own responsibility of course - but I do think it probably could have been headed off if he'd been given a way to acknowledge that TONE's own RSS misconfiguration is the source of the issue, while still saving face. I would guess Dorgay expected Chris to offer to remove TONE's RSS from the Around the Industry feature here at CA until TONE's RSS gets fixed. Of course Dorgay never made it clear that's what he wanted, and I'm just speculating - but that seems to be the subtext. Not saying Chris should have to make such an offer; just offering my $.02 as an observer for how/why Dorgay blew up so quickly (aside from the fact that he is acting like a child). Anyone ever just firing off an email has zero expectation to privacy. That's true - and Chris has every right to publish that exchange. At the same time, I would guess that publishing that exchange will only redouble Dorgay's rage, because (at least in Dorgay's mind) it's the same type of thing Dorgay was upset about in the first place with the RSS issue. plissken and MrMoM 1 1 Link to comment

I've consciously decided not to get into the running argument you've initiated in this thread, but since you've brought me in via the Guttenberg comment I made, I'll add a couple of comments about that: First, in addition to saying I like him and I'm glad he's a presence in the audiophile world, I also noted very specifically what I appreciate about him and his approach: On 7/15/2018 at 11:51 AM, tmtomh said: Guttenberg seems like a really nice guy, and I really like his lack of snobbery, willingness to focus on inexpensive and high-end gear, and lack of extremism on analogue vs digital and other audiophile debates. Second, my criticism of his content was similarly specific - I didn't say, "I don't like it and I think it sucks." Rather, I specifically noted that I'm chronically disappointed that his videos don't actually answer the questions or provide the insight that his video titles imply they will. If someone thinks "nothing burger" is too derogatory or flip, I am happy to accept that criticism and wouldn't even necessarily argue with it. Different strokes and all. But I would also insist that my "nothing burger" comment be taken in context: as the conclusion of a specific claim that Guttenberg's videos often don't deliver on their purported subject matter. So IMHO his content is less substantial and less useful than it promises to be, and than it could be - there's the constructive criticism. And that's what the expression "nothing burger" means: it's based precisely on a metaphor of something you think will satiate you but does not actually provide you with nourishment or satisfaction. And finally, I ended my comment with, "What do others think?" - a strong indication that dialogue and other thoughts are requested. And that's exactly what followed in that thread: Someone else posted a perfectly reasonable, and balanced, and somewhat different point of view than mine, which I appreciated, and which also slightly softened my view of Guttenberg's videos. So while you have every right to say what you want to say, I do wish you'd be a more careful reader of what others say before you attempt to use their comments as evidence. That tagline annoys the crap out of me, but at the same time I have to admit that it makes me smile every time I see him say it in a video, because it seems like he himself is not entirely comfortable with having to say it every time. So I find that endearing, despite myself. ? Link to comment

Your response to @Jud strongly implies that you think CA's removal of Tone Audio's RSS feeds is evidence that your interpretation of the "jury is out" web article was correct. But it is not evidence of that. The Computer Audiophile, AudioDoctor, MikeyFresh and 2 others 3 1 1 Link to comment
