That's a discussion for a separate topic, as the subject of this review, the Altair G1 sounds great without upsampling.

Or, are you just trying to be snarky and prove some point that I don't understand?

No snark at all, you've answered my very reasonable question.

Thanks for this excellent review. Partly because this of this review I have acquired the Altair G1.

I was confronted with the same problem you had when scanning your music collection. After a while my ethernet connection was lost and my Altair froze. Only a hard reboot brought it back to life. I was happy to read your solution quoted below but it left me with a question; exactly where and how did you change the speed of the port from 1Gbps to 100 Mbps? I could not find the option in Lightning DS nor in my router config.

"A day later, Auralic headquarters suggested that my Ubiquiti UniFi network was possibly too fast for the activities taking place during a complete library scan. Even though I had flow control enabled on my switches, I immediately changed the single port through with the Altair G1 was connected to the network, from 1 Gbps to 100 Mbps."

Hi Hawk, most managed switches and routers have this option. Which router are you using (assuming the Altair is connected directly to your router)?

Thanks for asking Computer Audiophile. I live in the Netherlands and my provider is KPN, they deliver a Experia v9 router.
I found no such option in the router menu.

This explanation states that managed router are business or enterprise routers that have more configuration options that common routers don't have. That might explain things. 🙂

I guess I have to ask KPN support if it is possible.

Thanks for trying though.

If this truly is the problem, you could get a 100Mbps switch to put in between your router and the Altair.

The Netgear FS105v3 is a simple and cheaper solution - https://www.netgear.com/support/product/FS105v3.aspx

Or you could go with something like the UpTone Audio EtherRegen that has a 100Mbps port - https://uptoneaudio.com/products/etherregen

That might be a good solution. Thanks for the tip. 👍🏻

Thanks for a great review!  I have a voluminous CD collection and am wondering if you used any of the CD rip abilities in the Altair?

No, but I have an ARIES G2.1 and I'm writing a review as I type this. I will cover its CD ripping capabilities.

Just to add a little to this review.  I did a short video of the operation of my Altair G1 using an iPad mini.

The Altair G1 is a rather marvelous combination of hardware and software.
