miguelito
I have an Oppo BDP-93 which I sometimes use as a transport to play CDs via its coaxial SPDIF out to my DAC (dCS Rossini). I would also like to play SACD and BluRay discs to my DAC. However, the signal for these comes out of the HDMI output only (some copy protection business I think). There are these devices out there, "HDMI audio extractors", that take an HDMI signal and split the audio out to digital or analog outputs. So I am looking for one such HDMI audio extractor that: 1- Has a coax SPDIF output 2- Can do higher than redbook quality output 3- Does not have HDCP issues (copy protection issues) 4- Can be set to select the 2ch version in the HDMI signal 5- Sounds good Any advice please? Thx. jacobacci
The cheapo HDMI SPDIF Extractors are a bit hit and miss. If you want to do it right, get an Audiopraise Vanity 93 board. miguelito 1 Link to comment

I have ordered this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FM3HWNW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and will report back on whether it works or not. The Oppo BDP-93 plays pretty much anything, including DVD-A (I have a few), SACD (I have many), BluRay Audio (I have a few), so we shall see. I am not inclined to spend a lot of money on this since it is rare that I listen to physical media anymore. I expect this to be the same as the KanexPro audio extractor: https://www.kanexpro.com/item/?id=HAECOAX NUC10i7 + Roon ROCK > dCS Rossini APEX DAC + dCS Rossini Master Clock SME 20/3 + SME V + Dynavector XV-1s or ANUK IO Gold > vdH The Grail or Kondo KSL-SFz + ANK L3 Phono Audio Note Kondo Ongaku > Avantgarde Duo Mezzo Signal cables: Kondo Silver, Crystal Cable phono Power cables: Kondo, Shunyata, van den Hul system pics Link to comment

seeteeyou
Since dCS Rossini DAC does support DoP via both coaxial inputs, AFAIK this is the only external audio extractor that could support SACD without resorting to PCM conversion https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=590187330024 And then there's an expensive mod for Oppo BDP-93 but that's superseded by Vanity203HD already, only compatible with UDP-203 http://audiopraise.com/vanityhd/overview.php tmtomh 1 Link to comment

I tried one from Tripp Lite, which looks to be the same as one from KanexPro (which supposedly supports PCM to 192): https://www.tripplite.com/uhd-4k-2k-hdmi-audio-de-embedder-extractor~P130000AUDIO I could only get it to output 44/48. SACD would output at 44 and a DVD-Audio (which was originally 96) would output at 48. So I returned it. A friend of mine is working in Beijing for a month and he has ordered the one recommended by @seeteeyou. I am willing to take the risk on these $460 just for the adventure - obviously it would be impossible to return it. If it works as advertized I would get a pretty good way to play any disc in it's native format (CD, SACD, DVD-Audio, BluRay Audio). I'll report back when I get this thing and try it out.
