Hi everybody,

I just updated to 8.60 and moved from 6.1.54 on both host and target to

 

6.7.6-GentooPlayer-RT-ULTRA-EUP-NOR-TEST+ 

Diretta 1220 on host and

6.8.1-GentooPlayer-ULTRA-EUP-CLTO-TEST+ 

Diretta 1221 on target

 

Diretta is always crashing after 10 seconds max

No profile, no CPU isolation, no ramsystem. 

 

Did gp-update and reinstalled host and target. 

 

Seems I'll have to reflash my backup 😩

I only have a Metrum Ambre on which I have LMS and squeezeliteR2, I tried several other kernels but stick with the RT ULTRA-EUP100-CLTO, that seems more transparent.

Since build 218 HQPlayerd 5.5.0 doesn’t work anymore with GentooPlayer 8.6.0.

I’ve tried to reinstall HQPlayerd-bin, then remove it and Install it again but without success.

I think the problem is not on GentooPlayer 8.60 side because I encounter the same problem with HQPlayer OS on 3 different computers. It might be something wrong with the HQplayer USB Dongle or with the Key attached to it.

Do most of you tend to upgrade from the menu in gentooplayer or do you prefer upgrading using an sd card?  I tried upgrading through my rpi via menu but it took several hours.

Update in the morning before work or overnight.  Just run the update and walk away and don't touch anything and never refresh the page.  There are times when it seems like it is frozen, but it isn't so just walk away and don't look at it and come back after work or in the morning and 9/10 times it works perfectly.  Having said that, I'm not going to update to 8.6 since it seems people are having some issues.  I'll wait for everything to get sorted and might jump to 8.7 when it comes out as long as the feedback is positive.  System is sounding good now, don't want to touch anything!

I updated my system to 8.60 last night. 

 

Two issues are shown in my system

My setup is [Roon -> HQPd (Diretta host) -> Rpi 4B with HiBerry Digi+ (Diretta Target with I2S) -> DAC (I2S)]

 

1) The Hiberry Digi(digi+) driver no longer works. The Rpi4B cannot recognize the audio chard. I have to choose the generic I2S driver to make it work

 

2) The Diretta in 8.60 doesn't work well. My DAC cannot recognize the DSD stream correctly. 

 

May I ask where to download the old 8.50 image for Rri 4?

Kind of similar to me.

Mercury streamer (Rpi4 compatible) in v8.60 as diretta target often stops playback and the Ramsystem seems not working well.

Fortunately I kept v8.50 installer file, so I have switched back to it and now all system is working perfect in v8.50.

I hope it gets fixed soon.

I have questions regarding the extra options "kernel-CLANG-LTO" and "EXTRM-System":

 

Could someone with x86-server and x86-endpoint perhaps share his experience which extra option has the bigger effect on sound quality? Also, is the effect bigger on the server or on the streamer?

These kind of experiences could also be interesting to others. I'm asking because buying both extra options for both devices would add up over the years...

Hi, 

Yesterday, I made the latest GP Updatein both target and host,, updated Diretta Host. 

It's ok.

But, in both target and Host, I cannot select the CPU governor.

system is based on 2 RPI4

 

Another matter : I noticed form the latest GP version 8.6, on some files, the female voices are sounding often with lot of esters.

I know that many masterings are not very well done nowdays,  but it seems the system is "amplifying" the phenomenon.

Any opinion on this matter ?

Most likely you have made changes in TWK, some options do not allow governor management....
So it does not depend on the update...

I'm using kernel 6.8.1 CLTO RT TEST, and on my system, which features holo audio red, the sound quality is significantly better compared to kernel 6.6.21 CLTO RT. This is quite intriguing. I wonder if this improvement is consistent across other systems too? Maybe @antonellocaroli can provide some insights. Thanks in advance... However, it's worth noting that both kernels offer exceptional sound quality.

I’m interesting to build test benchmarks using same music titles. We are not able to make any formal measurement then fixing music basis is a minimum we can do isn’t it ?

The improvment is clearly audible and I do not think it's a psy bias, so a measurement and comparison of spdif or I2S output from different configuration should be possible I think, is it a question of noise or jitter : there is a difference, should consider to find an open minded engineer to analyse and understand what we ear...

The Mercury V2 is misbehaving.  Using Maximum MPD, it stops playing after 30 mins.  Pressing PAUSE and PLAY restarts it, but only for a minute or two

 

There is a 4Tb SSD attached
