Yes, I am in fact neurotypical.

It’s undoubtedly true that we are virtually all male and older. I could certainly add male to the list, but age may be correlated with developed IQs?

More likely that age is correlated with disposable income.

You may be confusing IQ with experience.

You can correlate spending power with age, but the fact is that the bulk of audiophilia caters to the upper end of incomes — that could just as well mean that the price is just following the demand.

Also I think it’s a solid generalization to say that audiophiles listen to high-end musical genres like classical, fine jazz, etc. which may be linked to intelligence?

Poorer, less-educated people tended to like country, disco, easy listening, golden oldies, heavy metal and rap. Meanwhile, their wealthier and better-educated counterparts preferred genres such as classical, blues, jazz, opera, choral, pop, reggae, rock, world and musical theatre.

what is fine jazz?

how does it differ from coarse jazz?

I’m neurotypical; “fine” in this context is qualitative. Fine jazz is just natural instrument/vocal jazz that is recorded and mastered at a high level (ie, audiophile-grade).

I think he meant smooth jazz:

I think, in addition to all those other characteristics, audiophiles are driven by curiosity.

I know I've bought gear and tried a myriad of suggested tweaks basically because I needed to hear for myself.

If I worked in a hifi shop or if I was a reviewer I wouldn't need to spend all that cash.
