I ran into something I have never seen before ...

With all the rain we've had here in Austin, I've had all kinds of critters crawling out of the wood work. Case in point, here's a pair I caught slithering around my deck:

The upper one is a Dutch Lush^2, new to these parts, while the lower one is a grizzled veteran JSSG 360 Lush^1, with a few battle scars. :D

Burn in has begun.

Clicking on that picture implies a Login screen for Google (account) when doing that in Opera.

When clicking on the picture in Chrome and (an older version of) IE, this appears :

GoogleLogin01.thumb.png.f4a6fb050e4a506e64e7bb3ddb7c0837.png

I can imagine that it is related to the origin and how @austinpopcreated the picture (and took the photo). Or maybe those snakes are too dangerous for real ?

Yes, all fine now. Sorry for the interruption in this thread.

I believe @PeterSt has requested this feature a few times.

I am not aware of that, but it seems a good idea anyway. Previously it was a bit searching for where a link to a post could reside, although it was there all right. Now it's more "conform".

Thanks.

I know the "share this" icon is hip, but now it is redundant. Chris, maybe if you can give the number the same tooltip "Share this post" it is extra OK (and maybe stick both the icon and the number right next to each other).

No big deal of course, but if you're working in that area anyway ...

I can't say that I like the "huge" thumbnails that now come from injecting images in a post. Hence there are no thumbnails, only the normal pictures. Now its harder to construct a post in a more compact fashion.

Ah, OK. Maybe I can still edit my post (not that it is of huge importance).

Thank you, Chris.

Hey, I just found out about the double clicking on the image and change its thumbnail size (there it defaults to 300px). OK, that works too. Better even. :)

I suppose this has been in there forever ? if so, it's only a matter of making that feature more visible ?

I am not even sure how I found out, but at editing the post I saw some popup telling me that double click would bring me options (I don't talk about the tooltip which more vaguely tells the same (saw that long ago) and which does not tempt to go in there (if I now try it's not even about the same).

Maybe the double-click option isn't even known ? I really can't find any more where and how the edit-post told me ... but here:

That text appears for one second above the image, right after it has been inserted in the text. I probably always missed it.

This happens to more pictures when using the (Android) Phone :

Click on the (first) picture in that post.

The picture takes over the Browser instance and the A/S page is nowhere to be found. Tabbing back is grayed out.

All what remains is start a new Browser instance and pick A/S from the start.

If it matters, this is with Opera.

... And by now the embedded post is distroyed during this posting.

Anyway the link to the original issue with the picture is there now (right above here).

Never mind the picture issue!

Some practicing learns that the picture can open in a new tab without really seeing that happening. So rigorously killing the picture kills the whole browser instance. But A/S would still be there all right.

The embedding issue remains. 😄

Chris, please revert to how it was. It indeed looks childish.

I agree right away with everybody who claims (no, knows) that messing around with the spacing of fonts creates mess only. Already in the editor I lose "many" lines, only because of the current line spacing and a white line like I used above.

This is now the last line showing in the edit box.

I'm on a desktop (and am surprised that only 40 posts into this topic you started to set the font differently for the phone vs the desktop ?).

There never ever has been anything wrong in the so many changes regarding this. Now indeed I am suddenly on some odd site with amateur feel. Finally I can rightfully refer to my own forum.
Ha ! 🤩

I suppose you too now passed 40. Well, those oldies require reading glasses. It is as it is.

This is, mind you, quite different for a phone.  We use it in the car for reading-alone already, and we don't wear reading glasses in there when behind the wheel. Do whatever you like for that - without reading glasses it will never work for many, if not most. But you could try (to increase the current too thin font by a factor or two and then probably still no luck (and my phone already has increased font size from normal)).

IOW, forget that too and with reading glasses it was fine already. And this should count for all people, never mind the grade of reading glasses.

Do notice that (desktop) there's now suddenly an inconsistency already with 99,99% of other sites;

I'm afraid you're inventing wheels which are not going to run (rest of the world isn't going to listen).

image.png.f2f2ad0c9ef7093e26236b620ea69c21.png

(I tried to have this 1:1 unconverted, but it still needs clicking this thumb to see it unblurred - see the difference between the screenshot and my text (as long as it takes - haha).

Is it actually known that picture can't be retrieved in full any more ?  a black screen pops up. Also when opened in a new tab or window.

image.png.1ce5daa80a9080f6179554c28b5d46a1.png

It shows a spacer.png of 1 pixel, as it seems.

This here is Opera (tried on two PC's) and on Chrome it's the same issue.

The example is from here:

and I am not sure whether nothing works; I had an issue with a video the other day, but elsewhere, posted by the same person, it just worked in good order.

Chris, as of late I tend to paste pictures like I am pasting this one now:

image.png.1b3f225358897dcfad42a15345717ad5.png

If this one works, it's not it.

If it does not: ... it is pasted from the clipboard, so just within the text-posting area (above here). This could not be the intended way (but seems to work).

Edit: and it does now. So that's not it.

Can we have a feature that prevents Alex/sandyk posting in threads or replying to people he's said he won't?

We actually can do something similar.

As a moderator you should address this more neutrally. Just my opinion.

Hi Guys, if the site doesn't load properly for you or it looks like all the formatting is gone, please let me know. We are working on a cache issue to speed things up even more.

This happens some times (one out of 20 ?). This is Opera and I recognize it as a kind of "used too much memory" problem.

Right now, in one Browser instance, I am having the problem that I can't get a post to "post".

I still have that instance sitting here :

image.png.db0c10b3d911fd1eaebca4a6f52aafa3.png

Where clicking the Submit Reply button only tells me "Saving" but the post won't post.
Btw, I went to a new instance, clicked the Text-entry area where my text from the other instance appeared, pressed Submit Reply and it worked.

The other one now sits there and I won't re-attempt (double post).

If you don't recognize a thing of this, then blame my browser (I'm good).

Chris, maybe it helps you that this CSS not loading thing (or that "basic text" thing anyway) just happens at going from one page to the other. So suppose I finish this post and then click on the General Forum link (which would be my standard way of working) then it can happen.

Crucial for myself at trouble shooting would be:

Yesterday maybe one hour before my first post about this, I had the left border where the avatars show, double. One for the desktop version and I reckon one for the phone version. Thus, two CSS versions loading at the same time ?

I didn't make a screen copy of that situation, but for you the recognizable thing would be that:

image.thumb.png.bc8fe806b65a9ed2c39d1121d3d0120e.png

the Popular Post button you see there, also showed in the top left corner. So let's try ...

image.png.35edc27074bdc12624f13bfd2cd6abd4.png

yup, there you go.

Now envision those two overlaid, and that is what I saw. And I never drew the form smaller so I guess it can start out like that (smaller) and then "set" and grow.

I can imagine that this was already discussed:

image.png.d505b9801fd556cdb87a618e6f7a8116.png

When I click that link, I expect to go to the first page of the topic. At least it always worked like that plus it is functionality in itself. Clicking the dot/asterisk in the left would go to the first unread post.

Today, clicking the link goes to the first unread post (which are not there for me in this case), while all I want is to read through the OP once again. This happens numerous times, I suppose not only for me.

So I hope this can be changed back to how it was ?

(and if not I will survive)

Peter
