JPLAY for iOS Is Now Available

Hi Guys, just a quick update. The UPnP control point app I've been using for seemingly ever, is now available in the App Store! I love this app and vow to never install mconnect on my iPhone or iPad again :~)

I know @Marcin_gps and his team have been working to perfect the app for a long time. I'me very happy to see this come to fruition.

The app is well worth the $49.99 /yr price.

    Much more to come.

It works in most cases, but it seems that there is more to it. It seems that you have albums in separated folders and minimserver is returning these as separated albums. I will look into it.

I actually want these discs to be returned as separate albums, which is how I treat them with metadata. I want to be able to play all tracks on disc no. X in the order they appear on that disc rather than track 1 of each disc, then track 2 of each disc, track 3 of each disc, and so on. In the 20+ years since I began my digital collection, I have found that outcome is most likely if I just decouple the discs of a set from one another by treating them as separate albums. I don't believe that my practice is all that uncommon. 😏

    @Marcin_gps

good news and bad news about the new version 1.0.2

    The good news:

    • metadata separation is now working well selecting semicolon separator. But it works only if I define in Minimserver the property upnpCustom = multiTag={artist} (for other readers information this property is available only with the Minimserver Full license, not with Starter edition license)
    • in my library multidisc albums are shown correctly (but I’m using SET SUBTITLE tag and maybe this gives me a different experience than other readers)

    The bad news:

    •  I cannot load my full library anymore (11260/184253 albums/tracks), the app reaches 99% and stays there forever

    • My library is divided in subsections and I tried different combinations and discovered I can load up to 3459/55579 albums/tracks

    • If I try to load more albums/tracks the app reaches 99% and stay there forever

To be noted that every time I try to load more albums I need to delete the app and reinstall it again, if not the loading task reaches 99% and suddenly the app shuts down (crashes?)

    .

I’m using an iPad 5gen with iPadOS 16.2

Note, however, that this merger occurs only with 16-44 files. Higher resolution volumes, both DSD and PCM, properly display multiple disc sets as separate volumes

You should look at how they are tagged

Maybe this chapter in Minimserver user guide can help

    @Marcin_gps … about Composer’s images

if I browse By Folders (ie Minimserver) I have all Composer’s images, like here

    .

but if I browse by Local Network/Composers no images are shown

    .

It would be fine to have images everywhere if they exist (this is true for artists too)

In principle I like the app and want it to succeed; when playback works it’s nice to use, to have  Qobuz/ local integration, and somehow, the SQ seems better than with JRiver or MConnect UPNP options.

However, in practice (1.0.2) it’s still unusable with my Oppo205 as renderer- first track plays fine, second track usually also plays, but shortly after track 2 starts the loading symbol appears and play then stops after track 2 and can’t be restarted.  Have tried various combinations of settings.  Mainly trying with Qobuz, but same seems  to be true with local library.  My Oppo is 100% solid with JRemote and much better, if not perfect, with MConnect. Have tried various combinations of settings, usually with gapless  disabled as per MConnect, but with no luck.  Log file sent.

I have cancelled my subscription before end of trial period.  In case these issues can be addressed, will I be able to access a further trial period via the app?  Thanks.

You need to let it finish. My 14TB library took a while, but it finished. Yours will get beyond 99% if you give it enough time.

It probably took around that long for my library. If it doesn’t fully finish, the app won’t work right.

Can someone tell me why it only scans a few albums out of approximately 600 that I have? I am not able to identify what the problem is, it does not seem to be naming the folders, nor the server, I have tried several, the fact is that it scans me about 30

How many albums does Minimserver count? (Browsing through By Folders/Minimserver)

@Marcin_gpsit is rather strange that the time taken to scan 50% of the library is about 17' while the time taken to go from 50% to 99% is about 38'.
What does the percentage refer to? Albums or tracks?

Now the scan reached 99% … let’s see how long it will take to complete the task … if it will

@Marcin_gps, I removed MinimServer and then tried again to do a library scan from scratch.  I then went to sleep.  When I woke up, the app had crashed back to desktop and there were no artists in the My Library section.

I am going to uninstall and reinstall the app and start over from scratch. I again will let it run without interruption, until the scan completes successfully or it again crashes out.

I had a similar issue. I restarted Minim. Installed the latest JPLAY then scanned the library. It got to 99% then took forever, but it completed.

    Almost 300,000 tracks.

I just tried a Sync New Data on my Mac Mini (M1), and the JPLAY app is still lingering at 99% even though I changed no data between scans. Would be really great to resolve this one.

The good news:  The new MinimServer scan completed eventually and populated the My Library “Artists “ field.

The bad news:  the data displayed is nonsense.  For example, “Agitation” is a track that appears on numerous Miles Davis albums. There is no Miles Davis album called “Agitation.”

    7CED310D-04ED-4A91-AAA4-67E355C59516.thumb.png.c5a0abcf44fb2f0119124f8e5e8a30b1.png

Even worse, when I click on on any of the “Agitation “ tracks mistakenly labeled as albums, it brings up that entry with a “0 tracks” attribute.  Clicking on “play” results in…. nothing.E3517FAC-AADC-4F65-ACB2-154D746E5E75.thumb.png.8a4322b007fbfcf9b72100469fa6ab63.png

Also, my metadata meticulously marks hi-res versions of albums as such in their album title fields (but not on individual tracks). For example, the MFSL version of E.S.P. is entitled in metadata as “E.S.P. [DSD]. The “Agitatation” version that shows up under that album cover doesn’t include a reference in its title to the resolution, leading me to believe that the displayed data is derived from the track metadata, not a corruption or transposition of the album title metadata.

I have no idea how this can happen or how it gets fixed, but it isn’t an error in the original MinimServer data.  Even the pretty execrable Mconnect accurately separates the album listing from the track listing.  The first screen is the Miles Davis album listing in Mconnect and the second is the Miles Davis  track listing in that app.

I am not posting any of this out of a desire to embarrass Marcin or torpedo his product. To the contrary, I am invested in it and trying to salvage my purchase.

I am more of a music hoarder than collector with a ridiculous amount of data. I also mess with metadata as needed for the sake of clarity, consistency, and avoidance of OS errors due to excessive path length.  There may also be anomalies in my network that prevent this app from finding servers that it is finding on other systems.  I thus might be bringing these problems on myself. That said, my experience raises questions about JPlay’s scalability, flexibility, and robustness at this stage of its development.  There either is a LOT of work to do or a need to acknowledge that this might not be an app for certain kinds of collections or users.

The album listing in the screenshot above was the result of a “Miles Davis” search.  I just scrolled the “albums” listing in My Library and the issue persists there.B2CA5062-2D50-4CFB-8B3A-4DE65C651FD7.thumb.png.2c396a409d85fd73d9e786ed0b79dcdf.png

There are thousands of comparable listings of album tracks as albums, with thumbs that link to “0 tracks” screens that can’t play anything.  It is not remotely a problem limited to poor Miles.  As another example, there are zero albums named “Ah-Leu-Cha" in my collection, but lots of album tracks.1B7F76CB-491D-448D-AB74-55330980B314.thumb.png.5e977e8ea886554f0e9e12a2362f5cf3.png

And, similarly, not one of these listing is of an actual album.  These all are just tracks.

This is strange. No matter what I do with my 25,000 album collection, I don’t see those issues.

The search is now working great. Selecting My Library in the search pop up (not on the left) makes search really fast and it’s great.

Not using LMS. JPlay can't find it. All screenshots from JPlay and Mconnect are with Minimserver as the library.

I don't have the same screens as you, as I noted above, as you seem to be on an iPhone and I am on an iPad, but, yes, I was searching in the My Library part of the database.  Just ran the search again, as a double check, and I get the same results.

Any idea why the MinimServer icons don’t appear on your album covers? That icon looks like LMS.
