Solstice380
A classic. Yah, first heard this one at the age of 10. My brothers are 10 and 12 years older than I and got me into the San Fran music at an early age. Our Dad hated it all! He was a Big Band and swing lover. Probably made us like it more. :-) https://audiophilestyle.com/profile/21384-solstice380/?tab=field_core_pfield_3 Link to comment
Solstice380
One of my favorite albums - found it on eBay: Wow, flashback! I haven't listened to any of theirs since DJ'ing in college. https://audiophilestyle.com/profile/21384-solstice380/?tab=field_core_pfield_3 Link to comment
Solstice380
Taking in some Santana while I look around for the new album.Initial reviews say that Santana IV is pretty good. I like the new IV, but most of it seems to be Shaman type songs played by the III musicians. It's very well produced but just seems too polished to me. Americanized Latin rhythms, softened guitar solos... Guess you can't go backwards in your own life - have to make do with remembering the rhythms and guitar that rocked my world when I first heard them. [emoji12] It is, however, worth it for a couple of gems. Buy it! https://audiophilestyle.com/profile/21384-solstice380/?tab=field_core_pfield_3 Link to comment
Solstice380
@The Computer Audiophile At least you have an excellent SQ from that DR 6 album! And it's acoustic.... hmmmm. rando 1 https://audiophilestyle.com/profile/21384-solstice380/?tab=field_core_pfield_3 Link to comment
Popular Post Solstice380
I had to give my friend @The Computer Audiophile a little ribbing. We've had to face to face conversation about DR. I've got a bunch of crappy DR but well produced albums - we all probably have some. When you have a bunch of guys all playing loud and heavily distorted, the needles don't drop much! I love the mood that Bowie's Blackstar creates all because it is so flat dynamically ( and maybe morose LOL). Dream Theater is another no-nonsense band that comes to mind in this regard. Some of their greatest stuff is DR 6. And some of it is DR 11 including recent downloads. Go figure! @rando You understood... I would have hoped for a little better DR from an acoustic performance. It won a Grammy for Best Engineered, but you better be careful which issue... it’s known that a couple were not mastered or transferred to CD correctly and sound really bright. https://audiophilestyle.com/profile/21384-solstice380/?tab=field_core_pfield_3 Link to comment

Saw him / OB in a good sized club in Santa Fe NM. Had to be late 80s or real early 90s. Full band of around 10, horn section, percussionist. Unbelievably tight! And loud! https://audiophilestyle.com/profile/21384-solstice380/?tab=field_core_pfield_3 Link to comment

I started going to shows in the mid-70s and stopped in the late 80s. I have this and the Other Ones, as well as the other available shows from 90-95. They’re just not the same as, say, Venetia OR from ‘72, or the awesome stuff from ‘74. A couple years ago my wife and I went to see Dead & Co. The band is very tight with Oteil and the boys, but, John Mayer doesn’t do it for me in any way, shape or form. Not to mention the crowd these days isn’t the same... me, either, I guess. If I didn’t have 35 years of Jerry I may feel differently, but still wouldn’t like Mayer’s voice/singing.
