Are the glitches in the exact same spots every time?

It is in this track.

Could it be clipping? I get it with iTunes as well, not just HQPlayer.

Or maybe it was an error when ripping.

I have found glitches in ripped files that I don't recall hearing before. Could it be the SSD?

When one of my Samsung SSDs ended up going bad, what clued me in to start checking was the fact music would just stop playing entirely. If it's just a skip, it's probably not the SSD but I don't mind being wrong either.

Mine's also a Samsung SSD...

Are you on Linux?

Did you check the drives SMART info?

I'm on Mac OS and it says SMART status: Not Supported...

The SSD is mounted in a OWC USB case.

Ahh, I don't think Mac OS supports SMART info on externally mounted drives. Not really relevant, but an interesting thought. I wonder if Thunderbolt, being a PCI connection, supports SMART info on Mac OS.

Did you get a chance to compare the two differently ripped files yet?

Yes, the new file is perfect.

Strange because I use error correction in iTunes, the same DVD drive and the CD was brand new.

Well, we have found the source of the problem then it appears. It's a bummer because you have to re-rip some albums. Hopefully it's not more than a few.

I've found another track with a glitch in another album. Both tracks were ripped in the past couple of years.

I am ripping with an old LaCie FireWire drive and can only connect it the old 2012 MBP I use for websurfing and controlling HQPlayer. I run the MBP on battery, I wonder if that's what's playing tricks...

I need to get a FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter.

have you considered a new ripping drive?

I use this:

and dbPoweramp and rip with zero problems on my Mac Studio and Linux Desktop.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm a bit of a cheapstake, also I avoid replacing things that still work fine for environmental reasons.

I bought this drive new old stock 6 years ago for a fiver, it should still be working fine.

Looks like my LaCie DVD drive has died...

I wonder if I can just buy any internal optical drive and replace the original Toshiba/Samsung OEM drive.

Bummer. I try to use things for as long as possible also, for the same reasons. The opposite side of that same coin says I also buy things that will last for a long time as well. I have never had a problem with anything from OWC...
