octaviars
Asking for a friend who is not a member here that is thinking of geting a Farad 3 PSU 19VDC to drive his NUC10i7 with ROON ROCK. Farad wrote to him that due to the power demand during boot up it might not be sufficient with the 3A that the Farad can supply, it might work but they could not guarantee it. Anyone here using a Farad 3 19VDC with a NUC10i7. The NUC has the following spec. NUC10i7FNH RAM: Kingston HyperX Impact Black SO-DIMM DDR4 2666MHz 2x8GB Disk OS: Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 250GB Disk Music: Samsung 870 EVO SATA SSD 4TB Main system TAD D1000mk2, TAD M2500mk2, TAD CE-1, Ansuz Mainz 8 C2, Ansuz Darkz D-TC, Qobuz Studio -> Roon ROCK on NUC -> Uptone etherREGEN -> dCS Network Bridge -> AES/EBU -> DAC HD Plex 200W PSU (4 rail for ISP fiber, router, etherREGEN and NUC) Second system Qobuz Studio -> Devialet Silver Phantom, Devialet Tree Link to comment
mitch751
Check the SMPS came with the NUC, it should tell you the amp. I personal think 3A is not enough during the boot up .... if I were you I will go for at least 5 amp B&W 800 Diamond D2, Goldmund Eidos Reference CD, Goldmund Telos 600, Goldmund Mimesis 32, Cello Audio Palette MIV.[br]MacBook Pro, LIO, Mytek 192, HD800, Luxman SQ-38U, Luxman MQ-88u Link to comment
davide256
It will probably boot but you would likely have to throttle CPU speed for an i7 to be reliable. I’d suggest googling a review to verify what the actual boot amp amperage was Regards, Dave Audio system Link to comment

Elberoth
NUC 10i7 current draw: Standby: 0.02A Idle running Roon: 0.56A Highest peak registered by my multimeter on startup: 3A @ 12V 3A @ 12V = 36VA 3A @ 19V = 57VA, so yes, Farad 3 PSU 19VDC @ 3A will be more than enough.
