The ARIES G2 is compatible with other OpenHome-based control software (although not with UPnP-based software such as JRiver Media Center.) Some functionality may be limited when using 3rd party control software.

Owners of AURALiC products may now control and play Amazon Music from within Lightning DS, a feature-rich and intuitive control app designed in-house by the AURALiC engineering team.

OMG, that could very well be a *HUGE* deal if they weren't doing anything to prevent any 3rd-party hardware / software from receiving those Amazon Music (Ultra) HD streams that came from their Lightning DS app.

OpenHome ain't really a proprietary standard at all, we simply need to get both UPnP Media Server and BubbleUPnP Server to installed somewhere on the network.

For instance, I don't have any products from Linn to begin with but BubbleDS for Linn DS / OpenHome would still work with streaming Qobuz to just about any renderers that are OpenHome compliant

NVM, that door was already closed back in 2015

All: I have been using the lightning ds app as my tv's music control point from my ipad. since updating to 2.0, the app no longer support non-auralic renderer.

I didn't even think about this!

Testing now.

My eyes literally lit right up once I saw that's actually implemented via their iOS app, then I really had to DAFS on Google and then realized that didn't work for any 3rd party devices since version 2.0 of Lightning DS.

Why Amazon Music is not fully supported ?

Currently, Amazon Music not providing any public API to access to an user Amazon Music account data.

While there's no public API and we didn't found a secure workaround to access to Amazon Music user datas, we are not able to move datas TO Amazon Music.

But we are still able to transfer an Amazon Music playlist to other services by using the "share link" of a playlist.

In other words, I guess that maybe AURALiC could have paid Amazon in order to get access to their API or something? Pretty much like how Bluesound / Denon / Sonos etc. managed to support AM on their own devices.

Though not sure about how these guys were able to get their stuff working in the first place?

From how the software behaves and how the UI is set up, Lightning DS does seem to be tied to their hardware specifically.

I actually found the connection to my Amazon account easy-peasy (surprise), and lo and behold, purchases of CDs and such over the years all now magically in Lightning DS.

BUT, when I tried to play anything, the stream seemed to buffer for too long, and then largely failed. I got one song to play out of about a dozen tries, no idea why that one song played but others did not (and simply error messaged out with no useful additional help info, which unfortunately is typical for Auralic).

Hopefully it will get better if such content is free. As for subscriptions, I don't think I will necessarily sign up for Amazon Unlimited as I and the rest of the world are still waiting for Spotify to not announce they're not going to do hi-res after all. Ha ha, sigh.
