Aryoh
Hello, does anyone use freenas for music storage and also are you use files compression? Link to comment
plissken
If you build using recommended hardware freenas is a great way to go. If your storage needs aren't complex it's usually easier to get a turnkey NAS from the likes of Western Digital. tmtomh 1 Link to comment
Aryoh
thank you for the answer plissken. yes my plan is to use recommended hardware with LSI HBA card ,RaidZ2 setup and 10GB optical connection , what I'm interested in is someone having the experience of whether ZFS compression affects the sound quality ? plissken
No it's not going to affect your SQ. The FreeNAS box does the compress/decompress on the fly and your end point receives the data it normally would either way. jabbr 1 Link to comment
cjf
I use a FreeNAS based storage device and find it to be great (IXSystems FreeNAS Mini). Once its setup you can pretty much forget its even there. If your not computer savy setup may be challenging for some but its worth it in the end IMO. My Audio System -Last Updated May 20 2021 Link to comment
Gregory
Hi, I use a freeNAS for years, default compression activated, no sound issue. I run Roon server in a virtual machine on the NAS (it has 8 cores, 32gb ram) without any sound issue. Greg. Link to comment

wgscott
I recently had the motherboard replaced. They extended the warranty and did it for free, even though I've had it beyond the warranty period. They turned it around really fast as well. Link to comment

Support was fast and they sent me a new one quickly. No issues since My Audio System -Last Updated May 20 2021 Link to comment
wgscott
Yeah, the issue is published on their website, but kind of hidden in plain sight, and I spent some hours messing around and panicking before I found it. They will send you the replacement and you send the old one back. It is a short drive from here, and they offered to do a full diagnostic for free, so I took them up on that too (no other issues). aaa
Just wondering if any FreeNAS users are running MinimServer and streamer? If so, comments would be appreciated. Thank in advance. Link to comment
