Most important: please realize this thread is about bleeding edge experimentation and discovery. No one has The Answer™. If you are not into tweaking, just know that you can have a musically satisfying system without doing any of the nutty things we do here.

What remains a big curiosity in my mind is how the REF10 will alter all of this.  How the REF10 transformed the stock Mutec MC-3+USB in Munich continues to burn strong in my mind.  I was ready to accept that beautiful sound that I heard from that single upgrade and call it a day and this was using a plain Jane Mac laptop connected to the MC-3+USB via a modest USB cable.  No long string of trinkets.  The REF10 might show me that my replacement of 8 clocks will be serious overkill.

What about a Blu2, this remains to me a big curiosity, unless you heard something from Ref10 that elevate your curiosity of it more than Blu2.

Hi @sadekkhalifa,

I'm not registered at the Phasure forums - but I have looked there a couple times as some interesting stuff going on.

But I placed my order yesterday by simply emailing Peter (PeterSt) at:

Sales @ Phasure dot com

Peter responded promptly and it was an easy transaction from there.

Regards,

Alan

This way is more easy than registering in the forum.

Thanks Alan @BigAlMc

I would like to thank everyone on this thread for all of your hard work and info! My system has gone from a disappointment to one of pure enjoyment. In fact CA has become my daily must read.  Last night was the 1st time since i began building my system that i was able to sit back and marvel at the sound quality. Every tweak, every improvement, every upgrade over the last few months has been a step forward thanks to this thread. Last night my IsoRegen must have fully broke in and the sound is amazing!

So with that said....I am looking forward to three more improvements in my system.

1. Schiit Bitfrost multibit DAC upgrade

This week Schiit announced that they have improved the USB input on my DAC and for $150 they will install a new USB input board which includes a new clock and galvanic isolation.  Going by the theory that I should have the best clock closest to the DAC this should be interesting. They will have my DAC tommorrow and I should know next week how it improves my system.

2. Upgrade microRendu to version 1.4. I am going to do this after i get my Bitfrost DAC back next week.

3. Replace my hard USB adapter between my microRendu and IsoRegen when available.

This is great time to be an audiophile!

Looking forward for your observations

I asked Paul if he can make SR7 to power two devices with 12v and third one with 5v and the following his reply to email but as i am not an electrical engineer so i don't understand his reply, so if someone can help if he means that my request will degrade the performance of power supply or what?

I can provide some range adjustment down from the nominal highest
voltage setting (5v to 12v should be fine),
however this will require
de-rating of output current at lower settings (see the de-rating data in
the SR power supply information sheet) because reducing the regulator
output voltage causes an increase in voltage across the regulator output

device, which in turn increases the power dissipation in the output
stage generating additional heat in the chassis.

Regards,
Paul

And also he responded in another email as following:

I can provide some adjustment to the rails over a 10v span but, subject
to the level of load current the equipment under power draws, current
de-rating may be required at lower voltages due to the increased voltage
across the regulator output stage and the associated additional heat
generation. I was not specifically recommending 9v or 12v for the
Sotm
items but de-rating should not be a problem when setting a 12v supply to
9v. De-rating may have to be applied when
set to 5v although switches
are typically relatively low current devices so this may not be an issue
at all.

Regards,
Paul

Both the LPS-1 and sPS-500 are more transparent and detailed with better separation relative to the JS-2.  They improved the macro- and micro-dynamics of the microRendu.  With the stock sPS-500 A/C power cable, the two supplies are comparable, but the LPS-1 does seem to have a slight edge.  Given the cost differential, if I only wanted to power a single 3.3V, 5V, or 7V device, the LPS-1 is possibly the better choice.  (In my case, I was fortunate to buy a 1-month old sPS-500 for the price of a new LPS-1.)

The Pangea A/C power cable greatly enhances soundstage dimensionality and imparts a sense of realism that makes the LPS-1 sound lean in comparison.  Please note that this particular Pangea cable is relatively inexpensive and would never be confused with a reference power cable.

I am not the first person to have noticed the importance of the A/C power cable:

Did you mean this AC power cable?

Rob Watts should be so confident about Pulse Array and external clock wouldn't be a necessity.

In addition, @romaz also talked about that particular topic and decided not to mod his Hugo 2

Actually we could keep an eye on the upcoming Teac NT-505 and UD-505 with 10 MHz reference clock inputs while both of them do accept 768 kHz via USB

https://www.supersonido.es/p/teac-nt-505

https://www.supersonido.es/p/teac-ud-505

In other words, we could feed 705.6 kHz / 768 kHz WAV M-scaled files to either DAC from Teac while taking advantage of one of those 10 MHz reference clocks from Cybershaft / MUTEC / SOtM etc.

Did you know when Teac UD-505 will be Available?

They only said that's expected to be available within 2017 but no specific dates yet

http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1078891.html

Most likely they'll stick with 50 Ω instead of 75 Ω since we could find that on page 9 of UD-503 manual

http://www.teac.com/content/downloads/products/935/ud-503_om_efs_va.pdf#page=9

Consequently, there will be VERY limited choices for decent clock cables unless we're willing to settle for the cheapest ones from Mogami etc.

Esoteric 8N-A2000 BNC (Discontinued)
http://www.esoteric.jp/products/esoteric/8na2000bnc/indexe.html

Shunyata Alpha Clock-50 ($1,000/£1,000)

Shunyata Sigma Clock-50 ($2,000/£2,000)
https://shunyata-uk.com/product/digital-cables/sigma-clock/

http://www.shunyata.com/media/PDFs/2017_Cable_Guide_v2.pdf#page=72

Evolution Acoustics BNC Links ($6,000)
http://www.evolutionacoustics.com/cables/bnc-links/

It makes sense to pay for an expensive clock cables if we're able to afford one of those pricey DACs from Esoteric. OTOH, both NT-505 and UD-505 would cost roughly €1,399 so that clock cables might not make that much sense if they're almost as expensive as the DAC itself IMHO.

SOtM wouldn't wanna modify any DACs unless we're happy to pay for multiple sCLK-EX boards, that's why it's just way too difficult to find an affordable DAC with 75 Ω external clock input.

Esoteric N-05 does have 75 Ω external clock input but it ain't exactly cheap to begin with

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Esoteric-N-05-Network-Audio-player-Japan-made-/352040960914

Maybe it's good enough to stick with Chord Hugo 2 or the upcoming 3Qute since their ultra-low impedance should be great for Omega speakers etc. Other than that, I wonder if there were anyone who might be able to perform sCLK-EX modifications for DACs without asking for a ridiculously high fee?

Thanks for this information.
