mrvco
Apple sell a TB to FW adapter, but some people have reported particular bus-powered drives not working with it. I bought one with my 27" iMac earlier this year, and while it seems to work OK with my drives, I really don't have a need for a 2nd TB port. Especially since the iMac will be headless. -- My Audio System Link to comment

Superdad
The iFixit.com teardown of the 2014 Mac mini is up at last! Finally some real facts and pictures. Yes the RAM is soldered. But for me the good news is that you can still get into the case with the correct tool, and the SMPS and fan are the same as previous models, so our Mac mini DC-conversion/Linear Fan Controller Kit should still work fine with the 2014 minis (though I may need to find a new mounting place for our intermediary connector board as the new model has done away with the plastic shroud that used to go over the heat-pipes). occamsrazor
The iFixit.com teardown of the 2014 Mac mini is up at last! So no chance to use standard 2.5" SSDs, or a second drive. Kind've kills it for me I'm afraid.... Mac Mini > RME ADI-2 DAC > Hypex Ncore monoblocks > ATC SCM-11 speakers & C1 subwoofer Link to comment

Well no second drive, but any standard 2.5" drive--be it a spinning platter or an SSD can be installed and connected to the motherboard's one SATA port. UpTone Audio LLC Link to comment

Yes, you're right, thanks for correcting me. I was confused by the mention of PCIe SSD drives and was thinking that was the sole connection, which seems not to be the case. I would still have preferred easily-changeable 2 x 2.5" slots though.... Mac Mini > RME ADI-2 DAC > Hypex Ncore monoblocks > ATC SCM-11 speakers & C1 subwoofer Link to comment

The Mac Mini of course will be headless or at least its "head" will be disembodied through the marvels of modern network technology. -- My Audio System Link to comment

wgscott
Speed Comparison: 2012 v. 2014Estimating Mac mini Performance I feel vindicated in my 2012 upgrade to i7. The 2010 Core2Duo is quite sluggish by comparison. I don't know how many of our audio software programs use genuinely distributive processing. It seems like a lot of them rapidly switch between processors. Link to comment
