Do you turn up the volume and let your rig ROAR when you are in THAT mode?

And what music would it be?

- Heavy Rock

- Music of your youth

- Trance if you have a rave at home

- Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture

Genres:

- Rock

- Trance

- Acoustic bass in jazz, say NHØP

- Drum & Bass

Try this one really LOUD:

PS. I need this stuff absolutely lossless to survive getting shaked down but then it's a rush!

...in my opinion / experience...

While I agree "Everything may matter" working out what actually affects the sound is a trickier thing.

And I agree "Trust your ears" but equally don't allow them to fool you - trust them with a bit of skepticism.

Every time one of the niece's or nephew's freind is over & says, 'My Dad's Cerwin Vegas rock!"

A little Marilyn Manson, or Axel Rose - Chinese Democracy on vinyl @ 110 dB shuts them up fast.

Then it is right back to the classical at 60 dB.

Not entirely related, but . . .

I just abused my audiophile surround rig watching the movie from 2005 ripped loss-less from blurry.

Really impressive sound effects at full blast! *

- The lightning bolts

- The ground ripped open

- The horn of the tripods

- Buildings getting ripped apart

- The elevated highway falling on you

- Fighter planes flying over you

- And the whole fighting scenes

I just hope none of the neighbors went to bed early!

I'll enjoy the soundtrack by Jeff Wane later ;-)

* Well, I was running at -38dB, but still quite loud!

Noisy ... but shame about the film :-)

My preference would be the original...

Heck yeah. Stones, Jill Scott, Beethoven, Collective Soul, etc., etc.. They all need that extra push now and then. A BIG push.

When Keith's crunchy cords set the tone at the beginning of "Can't you hear me knocking?" the volume starts creeping up and by the time Mick snarls his first line it is LOUD.

It's funny you mention Bassnectar, because that's the very thing (the album Underground Communication in my case) that was last cranked up to the point of rattling pictures on the wall in our house (you know, just for the fun of it).
