CA By The Bay Meet & Greet Recap

The first CA get together went off without a hitch! Thanks to everyone who came out the Westside Cafe in Berkeley on Saturday. Also, thanks to Tim for sponsoring the event and to Dave for getting the ball rolling. Despite being sick I had a blast meeting everyone. The collective knowledge and experience of the CA readers is truly amazing. I know I learned more by talking to people over a few hours at the event than I have in a long time.

I encourage all who attended to leave a comment about the event so those who couldn't attend understand what they missed :~) And, people in other locations can get an idea about hosting their own CA get together.

I've received photos from CA reader Barr and those photos are attached below. If people want to share more photos let me know and I'll add them to the article.

P.S. I went sailing for the first time in my life the day before the event. I now know what 25 knot winds and waves like a washing machine out in the Bay are like. Scared the hell out of me![PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

Dear Chris, Barr and CA Members,

Thank you for a glimpse into the CA By The Bay Meet and Greet. Looked like a lay back group of old friends. Obviously, I recognize Chris and Alex. Is Barr in any of those photographs as I imagine that might be difficult taking those photographs at the same time. It would have been interesting to put when possible faces or body parts (smile) with names or CA handles.

Glad a good time was enjoyed by all.

    Best,

    Richard

    No women audiophiles present?

Seriously, it sure is great to see brothers hanging out and enjoying the good company of fellow audiophiles. I know not a single one outside the forums and often wonder how many others feel isolated. Now we can live vicariously through you folks

Thanks for calling the meeting as well as posting the results and pics.

    Kind regards.

    Gary

Richard - I prefer to be behind as opposed to in front of the lens. Next time I will get names to match with faces. I do know there were a number of passionate photographers at the event, several motorcyclists/bicyclists, a number of vinyl enthusiasts, quite a number of folks with various high tech backgrounds, and a lot of folks with great travel stories. No refugees from justice as far as I could tell.

    Hello Barr,

    Me too.

I was curious to see your face, and I thought you would be behind the lens, which is what I would be doing in the same situation which explains why I am hardly ever in any photographs.

    Next time (smile).

Love of music brings us together no matter what distances separate us.

    Richard

No offense to anyone, but what is the average age of the CA forumer? :) Genuinely curious.

My average age, lately, is seventy-one. But I shop like someone who is thirty. (Smile)

    Best,

    Richard

Old enough to have half our hearing left. :)

    Hi Chris,

I sympathise with your fear - the first time I went sailing in the ocean was Feb 2009 when I got on a 66' Ron Holland in Sydney and got off in Rhodes (Greece). There were 4 of us (I was the cabin boy) and we travelled over 16,000m2 in 4 months with a month layover in the Maldives, where one of there crew left (his Dad died) and we finished the trip with only 3.

At one stage we were in the middle of the Indian Ocean and 1,000km from land. I thought I was scared then but that was nothing until I started listening to the pirate attacks on the radio while travelling through the Gulf of Oman. I'm a surfer but now I really really like being on the land.

I only recognise JS (Apart from CC). Who happens to be my most most favourite HB, on back of the Wonderful Regen.

    Sweet!

This looks very cool. Any takers on a repeat get together at T.H.E. Show in Newport/Irvine at end of May?

It was a great time. There were very knowledgeable people there. I got lucky and sat with several designers who were willing to talk about what they were working on. Many people with strong opinions; not a surprise.

My only suggestion would be to have 1 or 2 people in the room speak about some aspect of CA that they have mastered. 10 minute max each speaker with 10-15 minutes of questions. In time, people will sign up to talk, I believe.

my vote is Berkeley is a good central location for the Bay area.
