foo_pggb_rt: A free real-time upsampler for foobar2000 [64 bit] using PGGB

I wonder if it is due to the higher sample-rate, I do not see why PGGB-RT would cause it to fail. Have you tried to convert a few tracks with the same settings, then play them via uPnP?

I lower down to DXD 384k then fine.  Such sample rate limit bug seems from Foobar 2.0 or uPnP plugin.   Thanks for reminding!

Hi @Zaphod Beeblebrox - I just got a new computer, and wanted to try using EQ with PGGB-RT. I downloaded PGGB, inserted my filter (44.1 Convolution file from Mitch Barnett), imported it using PGGB, opened Foobar, double-clicked a track, and... Foobar closed. When I reopened Foobar, a pop up came up asking if I wanted to open it in safe mode.

When I go back to PGGB-RT settings in Foobar and disable EQ, everything works fine. Any ideas on what could be going wrong?

Thanks!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I may have broken compatibility with Foobar with this new release, please use the previous version of PGGB EQ to import the filters for now.

Still crashes on the previous version (5.2). I'll hold off on and enjoy no eq on PGGB-RT for now! I'll redownload if I see a fix come through.

Thanks ZB.

I will try to reproduce it here and hopefully have a fix soon.

Thanks ZB.

Please grab the new version of PGGB 256: v5.3.43 and import your filters.

Note: I had to update the foo_pggb_rt plugin, grab the patch version from here. An official version will be posted to the foobar components site later.

Please let me know if that works for you.

Hi ZB - Thanks for the quick reply.

The good news: Foobar doesn't crash. The bad news: Foobar "locks up" now. My CPU is at 100% (as is RAM utilization). No sound comes out.

When using PGGB-RT without EQ setting enabled, i get maybe 90% CPU usage for a few seconds and 1/3 RAM usage before I get (very pleasant) sound.

image.thumb.png.d6c5431a6d178628db940df7bb12b7b6.png

Oh well, no big deal. I'm giving up on EQ for now. If you have any other suggestions I'm all ears!

Thanks again.

For EQ, PGGB-RT uses 128-bit processing which can be demanding and can take longer to process. What kind of EQ were you trying to do? Did you use the .txt import, if yes how many filters? Also did you try 'Maximize Speed'?

Please grab this version here: 64 bit eq

I use 128bit for IIR filters even when 64bit processing is requested to minimize amplitude and phase errors, but if that becomes a problem even in a modest setup like yours, it defeats the purpose of RT. So, I may just use 64 bit processing for EQ in RT. I am confident this will work.

Just did a quick test and it works!

FYI - I'm using a @mitchco convolution filter (65,536 tap filters).

Looking forward to more listening. Thanks ZB - really appreciate your attention to this free product (and me!).

You are welcome, thanks for confirming that it works. The RT plugin is our way of giving back to this community.

The RT plugin is objectively better than all prior versions of PGGB offline (v1 through v3) and is equivalent to the current version of PGGB-64.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Without EQ, PGGB-RT is excellent. It is my preferred form of upsampling when I'm with my Gustard X26 Pro at home (side note: I need a good portable USB DAC when I'm traveling with my brand new gaming laptop if anyone has a recommendation that can take advantage of PGGB and has a nice output stage... Currently I'm using a Cayin RU7 with HQPlayer doing DSD upsampling).

With EQ enabled, I'm still not getting an optimal experience. Right now, with the latest update, I'm getting some little, low-level pops. Oh well, it won't stop me from listening to PGGB-RT... I'll just leave out the EQ for now. I'll also experiment with parametric EQ, but that'll also be a little disappointing since I really like Mitch's convolution filter for my HD6XX.

System details below:

AT HOME: HQPlayer (PCM, Sinc-Long, TPDF, 768khz) OR PGGB-RT > Netgear GS108E Switch > ultraRendu (LPS 1.2) > Gustard X26 Pro > Topping A90 > HD6xx (Accurate Sounds Convolution Filter) / Campfire Ara / Drop + DCA Open X / Thieaudio Oracle Mk 1 / Tin Hifi P1 (USound EQ)

WORK ON THE GO: HQPlayer on Laptop (DSD256, ASDM7EC-super, sinc-long) > Cayin RU-7 (DAC Line Out Mode) > Topping G5 (Amp Mode) > Campfire Ara

MOBILE / AFRAID OF BEING MUGGED: iPhone > iPhone Dongle > Tripowin x HBB Olina

LAPTOP: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2023 model GA402XY-XS96)

@taipan254 Thanks for the sample and your patience. I found a bug that I did not catch during my listening tests (Most of my testing on Foobar is at 4fS playing to my Lynx Hilo DAC), but it was immediately obvious when playing 16fS to the L2 DAC.

Hopefully third time is a charm!

Since the latest version of foo_pggb_rt should require 64-bit version of foobar2000, it wouldn't work with this 32-bit foo_upnp at all

OTOH, just wondering if 768kHz were working perfectly on your laptop after installing this 64-bit version of foo_out_upnp by any chance?

I've been looking for a decent endpoint as well, so far this one seemed to be quite promising

Hi @seeteeyou -

I use the MeLe as an endpoint, so the 64-bit processing via Foo-RT is on the laptop, and then sent out via the plugin you mentioned to the endpoint, which is running audiolinux.

I am actually interested in your windows pre installation environment, but in the past kind of dismissed it as "too hard" to implement. Do you have a more recent guide?

That seemed to be a pretty nice machine for running foo_pggb_rt with plenty of storage options, while an even more affordable model is coming soon with Intel N100 (i.e. Alder Lake-N) CPU

Then I found that barebone model would actually cost 880 RMB / roughly 120 bucks in China

"Naturally" it does cost quite a bit more if that were ordered from other sites, including their official online store

It's pretty much like "semi-disposable" level of pricing at this point, not really such a big deal even if that weren't meeting our expectations.

Then we just need another endpoint to receive those gargle-blasted files via UPnP, this particular one looked so cool

Can someone help me getting EQ going on PGGB-RT?

I have PGGB-RT working fine with Foobar2000.

I downloaded a HD650 txt eq file.

I downloaded PGGB-256 trial

I loaded the HD650 txt file into the PGGB-256 EQ and turned it on (?)

Then went back to PGGB-RT and turned on EQ and it crashes when I play a song.

I'm really not clear on what to do after I load the HD650 txt file into PGGB-256.

Hello. I installed a clean windows 11 23h2 system, foobar2000 x64, then the latest vc_redist_x64 and the pggb-rt 5.4.1 plugin. I configured the plugin for resampling in quality mode. Resampling does not occur, a pop-up window of the resampling process does not appear. The music just plays as usual. Songs are marked to apply pggb. The plugin works on a clean windows 11 22h2 system if you download the latest updates from microsoft, the plugin stops working. Can someone check it out? My system is intel i5-4570 and 32GB of RAM.

We have had some issues in the past with the plugin on Win 11, but none reported recently.
