Popular Post bluesman
Although the drone of bagpipes is my absolute least favorite musical sound (and I'm stretching my imagination to consider it that), most music played on banjo or accordion is a close second - and I go nuts when having to listen to endless versions of Lady of Spain on the latter. My wife and I were on a cruise many years ago and were "assigned" to a table in the main restaurant with two other couples (very nice people with whom we got along very well). The first night we were all together, we finished dinner and decided to check out the various entertainment venues on the ship. One of the others asked us what kind of music we like. My wife ran through a few of her favorites, and I replied that I love all music except bagpipes, banjos, and accordions. I went on to describe my intense dislike of Lady of Spain, we all laughed, and we chose a variety show in one of the night club settings. It started off great! The house band was really good, and they had a few very fine singers in the Peggy Lee / Frank Sinatra style. The next to last performer walked out with a banjo and launched into his rendition of Foghorn Leghorn swallowing a banjo. I tolerated it without comment. The last performer was a woman with an accordion, who reminded me of Lawrence Welk in many ways (not all of them musical). I remained silent, although chuckles could be head form my wife and our companions. The audience, all of whom had clearly consumed far too much alcohol, called for an encore. And - joy of joys - the banjoist (who turned out to be the accordionist's husband) came out to join her in a rousing version of Lady of Spain. Sadly, I had not consumed enough alcohol. sphinxsix, christopher3393 and Superdad 3 Link to comment

It's not exactly music to my ears. But if it's in the interest of science and education, I'm all for it. Link to comment
Popular Post bluesman
On the other hand, after an exhaustive search, I stumbled across a bagpiper with a healthy dose of redeeming social value despite being accompanied by an accordion. It's probably a pretty good test of system fidelity - but after a few minutes of tweaking, I've concluded that the best way to enjoy this is with the volume set to 0: AudioDoctor, sphinxsix and christopher3393 1 2 Link to comment
