alice
OK so here Iam being frustrated with my Squeezebox touch, very finicky and doesn't play every format or resolution even the USB enhanced output. I would like to discuss an alternative, I would prefer a diy to keep the cost down and also to make it exciting ( I like to build stuff ) I recently build a has with synology OS, an extreme overkill machine and for a fraction of what synology has would cost. So let's see what's out there for me to try. Link to comment
firedog
Have you taken a look at the SOtM mini server? Seems like it would fit your needs for a relatively small amount. I know and its on my list but are there builds that I could follow as price/performance ratio for $500 will be amazing. Imagine an 8GB quad core 3GHz with SSD streaming PCM and DSD from my synology NAS Link to comment

4est
To replace a Touch? I am not sure about the touch screen, but I have a simple DIY project. RasberryPi running PiCoreplayer into:Hifimediy ES9023 I2S DAC for Raspberry Pi mod B 192Khz/24bit I've built a similar thing and it works a treat! I use it in my kitchen via LMS (in conjunction with the aforementioned SOtM sMS 100 too btw). alice
I should have mentioned I don't use the Squeezebox as a dac. only as a source. I'am currently also looking into the CAPS Build, may be that's the way to go and if it does DSD over the ethernet, its a winner for me. Link to comment
4est
Then pick up a j1900 mini itx and run Daphile or vortexbox. http://www.daphile.com/#overview http://info.vortexbox.org/ Forrest: Win10 i9 9900KS/GTX1060 HQPlayer4>Win10 NAA DSD>Pavel's DSC2.6>Bent Audio TAP> Parasound JC1>"Naked" Quad ESL63/Tannoy PS350B subs<100Hz Link to comment

4est
Cheaper for sure as you do not have to purchase Windows. You could always use CAPS hardware and run one of the server specific OSs such as those two. There are more and more embedded boards that will work nicely for this. Does either daphile or vortexbox have android apps? I know JRiver does and that could be the deal maker for me. Beacuse I don't want to open a browser everytime I listen to music, an app is very important. Link to comment

Daphile and Vortexbox both us the same apps as your current Squeezebox does. Eloise --- ...in my opinion / experience... While I agree "Everything may matter" working out what actually affects the sound is a trickier thing. And I agree "Trust your ears" but equally don't allow them to fool you - trust them with a bit of skepticism. keep your mind open... But mind your brain doesn't fall out. Link to comment
