Highly recommend the new Sarah Jarosz album, Undercurrent. This one is every bit as good as her previous work, but this time around it feels like she is doing less with more if that makes sense. Gary Paczosa behind the boards so the sound quality is extremely high. On sale this weekend at HDT.

+1

I downloaded it yesterday and I have listened to it several times since. The "acoustic" songs are especially enjoyable.

Here is a review of the album from the Wall Street Journal:

As the Swiss announcer nicely puts: A la contrebasse: Jack de Johnette, à la batterie: Eddie Gomez.

A wonderful album.

Also highly recommend this recently unearthed album recorded five days later by the same trio:

I'm really enjoying the latest release from Cookie and the gang at Blue Coast Records.

This is a remastering of some of the songs from Jenna Mammina's early albums that were produced by Cookie.

Highly recommended and on sale until September 12th:

Really good. Heard a track at an audio show, bought it, and been listening for several days.

Ruth Moody's solo albums are also quite good.

Her initial EP is on CD Baby:

First, thanks to kumakuma for providing a link to American Songwriter magazine's top 50 albums of 2016. This was number 1, if I remember right.

It was actually Booster MPS who provided the link in this thread:

Sounds right and I am both across the 'pond' and then on the far coast, Seattle.

It's not the total cost that stalls me but that I am paying almost as much in shipping as I am fir the product itself. I'm sure I'll succumb, man up and complete the purchase. Still don't understand the other shipping option, though.

Please let us know how you enjoy it.

I think "Collect on site" means pick it up at their brick and mortar store in Brussels:

Some folk tonight. A very nice album. Seems better than her first one.

A wonderful album.

BTW, if you like Ms. Giddens, her Factory Girl EP and live album from the 2016 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival are also very good. Not to mention her work on the New Basement Tapes album. :)

2017 is shaping up to a wonderful year for new music for me with new albums from Alison Krauss and Rhiannon Giddens already released and another favorite artist (Valerie June) dropping an album in March.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the heck out of them. Like I said, I'm probably the only one. :)

I've heard their style of music called "melancholic country blues".

Hello,

Is there a link for this rip? If there is, I cannot see it...

This isn't one of "those" sites.

The only thing folks are sharing in this thread is their love of music...

I'm at a loss for reply.  Suffice to say my unawareness of this conductor's past was as complete as my inability to turn a blind eye to it.

The conductor in question returned to Thailand to face these charges and was never prosecuted by the Thai authorities.

Of course, of course... Thai authorities who are extremely accurate with wealthy foreigners made all this fuss just for fun.

Or perhaps he was innocent. Neither you nor I know.

Far from standard trio. The level of communication between the musicians is almost telepathic. Beautiful, intimate album.

Thanks for the reminder. I forgot about this album.

The piano, trumpet, and accordion combination work surprisingly well together.

Indeed! And I much prefer his small group recordings than the more famous big band ones.

I need to dig into these more as well as dig out my Buddy DeFranco CDs.

The Gershwin Moment: Rhapsody in Blue; Concerto in F

Kirill Gerstein

Exciting new recording featuring not only the two well-known numbers but also some great Earl Wild virtuoso arrangements of Gershwin songs for piano.  Love the jazzy feel of all of the works - not your typical laid back "classical" performance, and Gerstein is remarkable in this (and everything else I've ever heard him do).

Highly recommended.
