jtwrace
I'm looking for a reasonably priced switches that I can connect together in two separate closets that act as one. Does anyone know of such a thing that will not break the bank? Say 8 port for each. I've read that doing it this way is better than using two regular switches basically daisy chained. True? fds
Hi jtwrace, I did buy two of these switches not too long ago. I am still experimenting with them. The cool feature - not yet used by me - it that a 10Gbit optical connection betweet them is possible. So far, I am using only my 1Gbit transceivers. Soon will I get 10Gbit capable transceivers. Reading the MikroTik forums however it seems that the optimal firmware for this switch is yet to come. Still mine are working now as intended. Wondering what it means to have two switches setup to act as one as opposed to daisy chaining. Is there any link for an explanation of this concept? plissken
You are talking about switches that implement a proprietary stacking solution like Cisco VRP, HPE VSX/VSF, etc where they offer front of switch stacking that bypasses the need for Spanning Tree and VLAN Tagging over LAG. You won't find that for consumer 8 port switches that I'm aware of. jtwrace 1 Link to comment
