Popular Post sphinxsix
For me the last (I still hope not) important rock protest album. And one of the most important protest ..instrumentals. 5 hours ago, rando said: Whatever thoughts I might have on the protest song. This topic wouldn't be quite complete without this little ditty. Made me think about Woody Guthrie who has written countless great protest songs (and of course was an inspiration for many including Bob Dylan). Just one of them. I apologize for the choice of the video but there is only one version of this song on Youtube - it's obviously not about Donald but about his father - Frederick Christ.. orresearch, Soothsayerman and semente 3 Link to comment
Popular Post sphinxsix
No reggae song has been posted yet. Quote "War" is a song recorded and made popular by Bob Marley. It first appeared on Bob Marley and the Wailers' 1976 Island Records album, Rastaman Vibration, Marley's only top 10 album in the USA. (In UK it reached position 15 May 15, 1976.) The lyrics are almost entirely derived from a speech made by Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I before the United Nations General Assembly on 4 October 1963. Until the philosophy Which hold one race superior and anotherInferiorIs finallyAnd permanentlyDiscreditedAnd abandonedEverywhere is warMe say war That until there no longerFirst class and second class citizens of any nationUntil the color of a man's skinIs of no more significance than the color of his eyesMe say war That until the basic human rightsAre equally guaranteed to allWithout regard to raceDis a war That until that dayThe dream of lasting peace,World citizenshipRule of international moralityWill remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,But never attainedNow everywhere is warWar And until the ignoble and unhappy regimesThat hold our brothers in AngolaIn MozambiqueSouth AfricaSub-human bondageHave been toppledUtterly destroyedWell, everywhere is warMe say war War in the eastWar in the westWar up northWar down southWar warRumors of warAnd until that day,The African continentWill not know peace,We Africans will fight we find it necessaryAnd we know we shall winAs we are confidentIn the victory Of good over evilGood over evil, yeahGood over evilGood over evil, yeahGood over evil clipper and semente 1 1 Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
IMO music of protest rarely gets more real than this. "The night 1,000 soldiers descended on Fela Kuti’s home, set it on fire and threw his elderly mother out of the window is etched into his family’s memory and music folklore for ever.." Fela Kuti's son's and grandson's new album will be out soon. Different beat: how Fela Kuti’s son and grandson are modernising the dynasty christopher3393, orresearch and semente 2 1 Link to comment
