Not half, Alex!  Those of us with Signature Rendu SEs are gagging for an SFP cage on the B side so that we don't have to use the ER in reverse.  I hope the Cisco SFP-10G-AOC5M series of optical SFP/cables don't count as 'current hungry' as they are the absolute best-sounding AOCs of many that I've tried.

1. the EtherREGEN in reverse is still much better than an opticalModule.

 

2. Yes, the Cisco AOC works exceedingly well with the Sonore and I recommend it for outstanding sound quality.

I don't have one, just borrowed a friend's.  I don't need a switch (yes, I know ER is a switch), my purist signal path is:

4G+ Router > ER (with AfterDark clock) > Sig Rendu SE > Gustard U18 (with AfterDark clock) > Gustard X26 Pro

Thanks for the Gen 2 update, Alex, the details of which become ever more mouth-watering as it takes shape.  I look forward to placing an order when you launch, whenever that may be.

 

Meanwhile, my ER Gen 1 continues to give great service in my system.

Ethernet reclocking isn't about jitter, it's about phase noise.  This is what degrades the signal into the DAC and affects its performance.  It's also why phase noise for a clock is a critical measurement and why 'air gapping', like using a fibre link, improves sound quality by helping to reduce the noise.
