Converting Music Library Files

Recommended Posts

#1

Hi

I have a fairly large music library which took me months to rip and catalogue. I'm wanting to convert these from AIFF to ALAC as I can't hear any difference and I want to save space and back up time.

Is there an easy way for me to use iTunes or something else to send this AIFF library onto an HDD and during the process convert them to ALAC?

Thank you for your help

Thanks. What I really want to do is to separate the converted ALAC files from the AIFF so that I don't have to search around for them. Is there a way I can get iTunes ( or XLD or anything else ) to convert the files to ALAC then export them to a location of my choice?

You are overthinking this. As suggested, once you change the import settings in iTunes, it will create an ALAC copy alongside the AIFF original. Then, just sort the library by kind.

I hope you are going to keep your AIFF library on at least one backup drive. Some apps, such as HQPlayer, do not "see" ALAC files.

DBPoweramp will do mass conversions with the ability to change the save location.
