taipan1013
Has anyone familiar or has used FLACMANIA.BIZ? If offers free FLAC music downloads. It seems to good to be true. One of my favorite artist is Chris Botti and FLACMANIA has a download for one of his albums. Would appreciate members feedback if FLACMANIA and other free FLAC download sorts are safe and legal to use. Thanks for your help. Link to comment

If a site is offering "free" downloads of commercially produced music, how can that be legal? If a site is offering "free" downloads of commercially produced music, how can that be legal? Indeed! Those type of sites are a rip-off to the artists and production companies who went to great expense to offer product for sale. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. http://www.soundonsound.com/ Link to comment
taipan1013
Ian and John thanks for your input. Your are both correct. Wonder why they are out on the web. Only thing I can think of is they want to hack into your computer or put virus in you system. Link to comment
tmtomh
Never heard of this before - just checked it out. It's a Russian site, which doesn't fully solve the mystery but does help point towards an answer. In Russia the copyright laws are (or used to be) different, and enforcement is not the same as here. That still doesn't answer the question of why the downloads are free. I'm not willing to risk clicking on a download link, but I strongly suspect they are either torrent links or direct-download links that are recycled from various Russian files-sharing sites. If so, then I would guess that Flacmania is just a web front-end for these links, and maybe they get revenue from selling ads for the web site. In other words, they might be making web-ad money by using and presenting other people's links. Link to comment
