sandyk
Shonky USB 2.0 cables. I found that the 5M long USB-A to USB-B cable from a local ebay supplier that I used in earlier tests was unreliable, with sometimes the rip failing part way through, and with a message saying that the USB device was not recognised .Neither did the external writer appear any longer among the devices. I then decided to trim 1M off it's length. Much to my surprise there were only the Red,white, green and black wires WITHOUT any shield. The Data and Power pairs do not appear to be separate twisted pairs either ! All that Identical Checksums gives is the possibility of REGENERATING the file to close to that of the original file. PROFILE UPDATED 13-11-2020 Link to comment

esldude
Should have purchased a good cable like those at Monoprice or Amazon. Or at least a Belden gold. Didn't you have the $8 US for the Belden? And always keep in mind: Cognitive biases, like seeing optical illusions are a sign of a normally functioning brain. We all have them, it’s nothing to be ashamed about, but it is something that affects our objective evaluation of reality. Link to comment

Perhaps this was just a dirty manufacturer's trick to make a USB cable that worked at longer lengths ?
