That isn't cheap. But I asked it because one of these days my Brooklyn gets the treat he deserves, which gives him all the goodies and more that are reported to be the goodies of an external power supply. I want to preserve some money for that purpose.

I think you won't regret it!

Hi 2counos, can you be a bit more specific? What aspects are better (dept, stage, dynamics, you name it)? And which are worse (space, electricity bill, you name it)?

Is it better than an sbooster, that is the question (free after Shakespeare)

Hello

Better or nor better that is the question. I can't say I don't test the Sbooster who seems to me inferior quality.

With the Qualia all aspects of the sound explode. First the dynamic is dynamite....all the the bandwidth is concerned. The message is airier, tones are better defined, contours accuracy like the players placement. It's an other Dac.... Difficult to coming back without it.

In fact nothing worse to my ears. All the best without even being burned in.....

Add and external power supply to the Brooklin without hesitate.

Thanks, I will try to get the better of it.

So just looking at the Brooklyn's internals (photo in above-mentioned PF review), there is some kind of XMOS chip. Assume that's for the USB input?

Reason I mention it is because someone mentioned earlier in the thread that the Brooklyn's USB was a completely in-house design rather than XMOS or Amanero. Not that it matters in the slightest but interested to know..

Do USB gizmos (Regen etc) improve the Brooklyn's USB at all?

The MQA development platform runs on XMOS. I'm guessing that's why XMOS is in the Brooklyn.

I do hope Mytek release the display off option quickly because I'm seeing some minor retention marks on the display...

Not good. Maybe email them in case they don't read it here?

So, no one has tried a digital converter (DDC) to the SPDIF input and compared it to the direct USB input? Wondering which sounds better?

Will probably buy a DDC regardless, as it will enable connecting two PC's to the DAC rather than one (useful if one PC is specialised for music only and the other does video, multimedia etc).

Did you have it on all the time? Mine now sits on the table, waiting for its treatment; no way to get burnt-in. I do hope that Mytek releases the update before May 20, when I have my next update chance.

Maybe I missed an earlier post, but what's wrong with your Brooklyn exactly? :)

It has been on most of the time, yes.

PS As the screen is an LCD one I'm hoping it's not burnt in but simply suffering from retention and will get to normal again.

Nothing really. Or better, nothing that others didn't notice, the fact that an external power supply can do much good for it.

I will try an alternative method to enhance the dynamics, the 3D stage, the 'emotion' so to say. It's about the same treatment that my Olive once got (I hope, I won't do it myself), which makes it almost sounding the same on its own as it does now via the Brooklyn.

When done I will go to Mr Kamsma to have his Brooklyn with SBooster compared with mine. And if there is a new release of the firmware, I'm sure he will be so kind to update it.

DLL problem solved for 32 bit Windows.

I received this from Mytek tech support and it installs the Control panel:

http://mytekdigital.com/pub/Mytek%20Control%20Panel%2032bits%20workaround.zip

In this package you will find some files.

Two installers that you have to execute:

MytekControl[noDriver]_v1.05.msi

MytekStreaming_v3.29.0.exe

You must install both of them.

Then you have to install our control driver (from "MytekControl_x86.driver" folder) separately. Instruction how to do that are in url link in same folder as installers within archive.
