Astell & Kern AK100

Hi Guys - I just read an article in the local MSP newspaper of all places about the Astell & Kern AK100 high resolution capable portable player. Has anyone tried this thing?

It looks like this is geared towards larger/more difficult-to-drive headphones. The output impedance of ~20 ohms means it is a non-starter for most IEMs/low impedance headphones...big potential for swings in the FR there. Kind of unfortunate, having something meant to be the "ultimate portable player" of sorts not really being compatible with portable headphones.

Yeah, the output impedance would be a deal-killer for me, as my UERM's have a nominal impedance of 21 ohms. Although there is allegedly a pretty easy fix for the output impedance.

 

No support for Apple Lossless, either.

 

Until Apple gets its head out of its hindquarters and gives us a hi-res iDevice, gizmos like this and the iBasso DX 100 will still entice.

What headphones work well with it? Somethign int he 600 Ohm region?

Hi Guys - I have one on the way for review. I was told it will work fine with my Ultimate Ears ue11 Pro but not so well with my Sennheiser HD600. We'll see when I get it.
