    Chris-

Just keep going for it. You are a great role model for doing what you love and making it work.

    Best,

Great start in the video domain. Keep it up. Only thing i miss is some close ups of the gear you review. Looking forward to the next one.

That Wadia is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. On the other hand, for $7500/$8000/$8500 I guess you should get as much as you can.

Great job Chris! Very informative and nice to get all this information in a single video update. And you come across as an overall cool, nice guy!

One suggestion is to include a few more written cues at the bottom of the screen when you are describing certain gear models. You did it in most cases, but there were some descriptions that did not have them while you were talking.

Also, for a future show, would not mind to have a walk through of your current gear and how it's connected - especially the ones that you frequently use for your reviews.

Can the power line networking handle a NAS?

    NAS > Wall

    Computer > Wall

Chris ... just got around to watching your video and hopefully I can offer some constructive criticism to turn something which is a curiosity and maybe fun for you to make, into sometime which is actually worthy of being a video rather than just (if I'm a bit rude and to the point) a man talking to the camera.

Well first off, make use of the video format - at the moment all you've done is create an audio podcast with pictures. For example when you talk about a RMAF room - can you not insert a photograph of the room while continuing to talk over it? You sat there describing the look of the BelCanto ... yawn ... SHOW IT. That's what a video is for. If I can be critical, this video would loose nothing if I closed the laptop and just listened to the audio - maybe you disagree but that's my opinion.

Second, I don't know if you had a script, but you really shouldn't be umming and arrring about prices, etc. What should have been a positive statement "the BelCanto power amps are $15,000 each and the pre-amp $20,000" sounded to me like you didn't really know and were guessing. Equally the bit about the price of the Wadia.

Finally, and I'm not sure about this ... but a series of little videos might have been more useful than one 25minutes video. Or ideally (and I'm not sure if you can do this with YouTube) a series of bookmarks so people can view the Wadia piece, or the BelCanto piece, etc. Perhaps you could upload the individual pieces to a YouTube channel as well as the full length version.

As for subject matter; I would think (for example) that the piece you wrote on what computer utilities you use would make a good video. Show how they are used, include demos and screen shots, etc. Some FAQ and beginners guides would make good subject matter too.

Just some thoughts ... I'm sure you'll ignore me and everyone else loved the video :-)

Right, off to look at the Hasselblad photos...

    PS. Question about the powerline...

Do you feel there is any degradation of sound quality when the power line is in use around your home. Some people have expressed this concern as (to all intents) a power line networking system puts noise on the power line to transmit data.

    Chris,

Thought the video was great! Don't force yourself into a once-a-week routine. The content will suffer when there's really nothing there. Besides, life happens!

Put them up when you're inspired. If that means 3 vids in one week and then crickets for the next 3 weeks so be it.

Some tuneage in the background would be cool as well!

Hey I'd love a video of Chris playing cricket... I said he was a Yorkshireman :-)

Great start Chris. Your past articles outlining detailed instructions could use video demonstration, probably not as a future episode but more as supplements.

I agree with the comments about adding photos but I'm sure that is due to the non digital origin of photos for this first attempt, then of course that just means more time editing on your part.

It's interesting to see your listening room. What are the dimensions and do you use any room treatments? Also, that's a great red chair you have in the sweet spot, but the high back and its curved design makes me wonder if it modifies the sound at the listening position. When you sit in it is the high back above your ears?

I enjoy your writing style and the thoroughness of your technical articles so I'm glad that you are sticking with the written word as well. Again, when a technical subject is tackled, supplemented video can be of great help to visitors.

    Break a leg!
