Hello, I've just recently acquired a Rega Brio-R, a pair of Transparent Audio The Wave speaker cables, and a pair of Wharefdale Diamond 10.2 speakers. I'm using a Fiio D3 as a temporary DAC with some old Monster RCA interconnects & a Dynex Digital Optical Audio Cable hooked up to my late 2009 27" iMac to play a large library of lossless & HiRes tunes. What's a good DAC & RCA interconnects to partner up with the Rega & the Wharfedales? I'm passing on the Rega Dac, because I don't like the USB option only doing 16 / 48 (the max is 96 on the iMac thru SPDIF) and I have a growing number of albums @ 24 / 192 I want to play. I plan on using a Transparent Audio USB or an Audioquest Carbon cable. These are the DACs so far I've seen (not heard) that interest me : Schiit Bifrost & Gungnir (if I can scrounge up some extra scratch) ifi iDac & iUSB Emotiva XDA-2 & ProDAC (not out yet, in late Feb / early March) Music Fidelity V-DAC II HRT Music Streamer HD Any suggestions, input, opinions, recommendations on the listed DACs or not would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I am selling a pair of Rega RS5 floor standing speakers in the Natural Cherry finish. I am the original owner of these speakers, and purchased them from and authorized Rega dealer. I have the original boxes and can double box to ship if requested. These are a matched pair in very good condition. There is no identifiable blemishes or damage to either speaker. All speaker grills are intact with no snags or damage. If you are not familiar with the Rega RS5, check them out on the Rega website here Rega Website I am asking $900 plus shipping. PM me with an offer or if you want to get more details about shipping costs. These are the newest version of the RS5 with the rounded feet. You will see on Audiogon and other sites people looking for over $1K for the old versions (squared feet). Rega just recently raised the price for the RS5’s to $1800 new. This is your chance to get the new version for a good price.
For some time I have felt that my speakers are a little lacking in the bottom end. I purchased an RTA application for my iPad and an external omni directional microphone trying to validate my gut feelings. Running a pink noise test through I find that I get a significant drop starting at around 200. The data looks like this: Freq db 2000 46 1500 46 1000 47 500 45 400 45 300 45 200 40 100 32 75 30 50 24 45 23 30 22 25 18 My room is 12’ x 12’. I have bass traps in the corners behind the speakers and panels at the first reflection point and behind my listening seat. While running the pink noise and RTA I tried moving the RTA up and down, forward and back. I have also tried moving the speakers closer and further form the back and side walls. All of this only made very minor adjustments. The best I could get was the RTA dead center between the two speakers and this was only a minimal improvement. So my question is, is there anything more I should try or is this potentially a limitation of the speaker? Before spending money on new speakers or a pair of subs I want to try anything I can.
