This thread is intended to differ from the M1 one by: Ooh, broadening the scope to all Macs Otoh, narrowing the focus on if a particular Mac Plays fine/Does not with regards to desirable settings My goal, and I guess it will be of interest to others, is to make an informed decision about the replacement (or not) of my MM1 8 Go RAM. With that machine I can, using convolution and, including Mch downfold to Stereo, ouput : • @ 256 SDM all PCM sources with rates up to 192 (384 untested) with 7EC Super and its 512 variant with satisfying filters ie Sinc MG/a or gauss hires lp Guess 512 and 1024 are desirable but no real frustration there • @384 PCM all PCM sources with rates up to 192 (384 untested ) with Sinc Long filter. That is frustrating and far from 1.5 M May (my DAC) capability that proves superior to lower rates with filters I could up that far. Yet with 1x sources it sounds good (I prefer SDM route and hires lp or Sinc MG with higher rates) • @128 SDM 64 SDM sources, (above and Mch : NO) with 7EC Light And source file has to be in a RAM disk and it’s not occasional glitches free That is very frustrating….. Plus I have RAM swapping almost all the time : I wonder if I would be so eager to churn a 16 Go RAM MM1… And you, what can you play with your Mac ?

Hi, does anyone have any experience in connection a Mac Powerbook with Mac OS Sierra (latest version 10.12.4) to a TAD-D1000MK2 through USB? According to the user manual (which seem a bit dated since only Mac OS 10.8, 10.7 and 10.6 are mentioned...), the needed software drivers should be downloaded/installed automatically when connecting the Mac to the DAC, but nothing happens and I can't see the DAC as a selectable Audio Output device in the sound system preferences. Any ideas?

Very pleased with Audirvana performance, however, I have noticed that the playback quality of identical files varies considerably, depending on whether they are being played singly (no other files in the Audirvana playlist) or as part of a larger playlist, e.g. an album. I am currently running an early-2009 iMac (Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz, OS X 10.7 Lion, 8GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 9400m). I plan to build a Mac Pro to support Audirvana optimally and have some questions re specs: 1) Does Audirvana make use of any libraries or OS APIs (e.g. OpenCL, GCD etc…) which would be best served by a particular spec? For example, if OpenCL is used, a machine with a dedicated GPU would be desirable. 2) What hardware resources have the most impact on Audirvana operation? For example, how RAM intensive is it? Does it operate better with more CPU cores? Would there be a noticeable performance difference between DDR2 & DDR3 memory? 3) Is there an optimal version of the Mac OS to target? An older version will place less load on the rest of the system, but might not offer optimal API support for the application. This will be a dedicated machine, so compatibility with other software is not important.

Hi Guys! I use MacBook Pro with internal optical output and, sure, USB with DAC Teac UD-H01 (with optical and USB input). For example, if I use Audirvana Plus with optical output there cannot be "direct mode", but if I use BitPerfect (plugin for iTunes) it works in direct mode with optical output. And both of them work in "direct mode" with USB. The above just my observation, just FYI. Question is, what's the better way for audio output, USB or Optical? and what player is better to use? Thanks in advance for your replies and comments!

I'm currently using Neutrino, which can have a different Audio Unit chain for every song (and even multiple chains for an individual song). Are there any alternatives out there that can do per-song effects? Edit (to avoid confusion): Neutrino only supports one chain at a time for the song that's playing, but if you have multiple copies of a song in a playlist or playlists, each copy can have a different Audio Unit chain.
