Kii’s mission for the THREE was to break the sonic mould of compact speakers. Powerful small speakers with deep bass have been around for a while now but none so far sounded like a big speaker. The THREE is built to fix that.

Basic acoustics tells us that a classic box speaker only directs sound towards the listeners from the midrange up while bass frequencies are radiated all around. The frequency where this change happens depends on the size of the box front (the “baffle”). The smaller the baffle, the higher the frequency at which bass is still radiated all around instead of directed towards the listener.

That in short is why big speakers have so far delivered much more precise timing and detail in the bass and low mids than small speakers: the room gets less chance to interfere. And that is what Kii has now managed to make a compact speaker do.

Three-way, stand-mounted, sealed-box, powered loudspeaker with DSP control.

    Drive-units: 1" wave-guided tweeter, 5" midrange, four 6.5" woofers, each individually powered.

    Amplifiers: six 250W custom Ncore.

    Frequency response: 20Hz–25kHz, ±0.5dB.

Acoustic output: 105dB long term, 110dB short term, 115dB peak.

Controlled directivity: 4.8dB (80Hz–1kHz, slowly rising thereafter).

Input: XLR (analog or AES/EBU up to 24-bit/192kHz PCM). Two KiiLink (RJ45) for Kii Control and master/slave.

Controls: Boundary (16 steps), Contour (14 presets).
    Dimensions: 16" (400mm) H by 8" (200mm) W by 16" (400mm) D. Weight: 33 lbs (15kg).

I have owned a set of Kii Three speakers with the BXT modules for just over a year now.  I have never heard a set of "speakers" that provide the clarity of presentation that the Kii Threes do.  They simplify the system setup and operation to work in almost any space.  Yet they can be enhanced with the right supporting systems around them.

I would like to say that they provide some truth in experience.  Not that they can do anything that would be called "true to source" but rather that they present what comes to them in a way that speaker to the sound of the source input.  They can be brutal to tracks that are badly mastered or recorded.

Over time I have found a three of enhancements that improve the sound in my room.

    1. Room correcting convolution filters in Roon
    2. Upgraded power cords and AC filtering including separate power cords for each speaker and each BXT.
    3. IsoAcoustics GAIA-1 stands.

While there is a lot more I could say, the most important is that you need to HEAR these speakers!
