AudioExplorations
Is it possible to have multiple sources (dac's, preamp's etc) feeding into a single power amp? Would something like a Y splitter cable work or would a seperate switch box type of device be needed? I'm considering using two different DAC's (for different flavors based on mood and music type) and run my setup power amp direct without a preamp. Link to comment
thesurfingalien
I would recommend against connecting sources directly to a power-amp without the use of some hardware volume-control. If, for whatever reason, your DAC(s) outputs a 100% signal you might damage your loudspeakers, not to mention your ears. But is there a specific reason to do this? Peter “We are the Audiodrones. AudioExplorations
Peter, both my DACs have built in volume controls and are designed to drive power amps directly. Link to comment
thesurfingalien
Than it's OK! Did not know the specs... I am not sure if some kind of splitter would be the best option... I believe I have seen a switch with good quality relays & remote, but I could not find a link to it just yet... Give me some time & I´ll post it... Peter “We are the Audiodrones. AudioExplorations
Thanks Peter, appreciate that! Indeed some kind of remote controlled audiophile grade splitter would be ideal, I have looked so far without success. Link to comment
4est
It's called a preamp! Seriously though, something akin to a passive resistive preamp set on max is my first thought... AudioExplorations
Haha yes... makes you wonder: where do you draw the line? I guess I am looking for a preamp without any functionality whatsoever (volume control/gain/resistance/nada) that simply allows the switching of 2-3 sources, with or without remote. Link to comment
jacobacci
There are several manufacturers of switch boxes on the market. One is www.goldpt.com I am currently building my own passive switchbox using Goldpoint's ELMA switching elements. Rudi Link to comment
pwfletcher
Check out the Benchmark Dac/Preamp. I had one before I switched to my Bel Canto and really liked it ... great sounding with no frills. They also make a cheaper preamp without the DAC that may just be what you are looking for ...
