audiophile65
Does anyone have the HDTracks download of Elton John's "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy"? Does it sound good? Better than CD? Thanks Link to comment
Paul R
Though it still sounds a bit - compressed - or something. Anyone who considers protocol unimportant has never dealt with a cat DAC. Robert A. Heinlein Link to comment
dizziness
See the graphs here: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/HD-music-fft-atlas-reference-thread#comment-97008 yes, there is some rather modern limiting but the tonal range is decent. iMac/Wireworld Ultraviolet/Arcam rDAC/Blue Jeans LC-1/Audioengine A5 Link to comment
The Hawk
Save your money. I like the CD better. All of the Elton John releases at HDTracks have been disappointing, at least to my ears. Dave MacBook->Audirvana Plus->Naim DAC-V1>Naim Nait XS->Naim Intros/nSATs Link to comment

REShaman
Bought both Elton John downloads from HDtracks and was mildly disappointed or unimpressed or... Converted my own collection of Elton John SACDs/CDs/Hybrid SACDs and the SQ of the conversions are quite satisfactory such that I no longer purchase much of what is being offered by HDtracks that is already in my library available for me to convert. I realize that my calibration is subjective; and I am not analyzing or measuring the SQ to gauge it objectively. Just listening and enjoying, and appreciating the quality of my own conversions. I am open to others' experiences too. Best, Richard Link to comment
