Popular Post The Computer Audiophile
Yesterday I did a little research into the Grammy winners this year. 84.4% of the winning releases, in the most popular 45 categories, were mixed and released in Atmos. I didn't have the time to calculate the percentage of winners AND nominees, but if I had to guess, it would be equally as high. I know people like to say immersive audio is just another surround sound fad, but I don't believe previous surround efforts had anywhere near this many popular releases and as fast of an industry embrace as Atmos music has. Call me crazy, but it's different this time. The format is being driven by giant companies, with resources, skin in the game, and a proven ability to execute. The install base of Atmos capable hardware is also immense. There are 1.5 billion active iPhones, tons of Apple TVs, firesticks, soundbars, Sonos systems with Atmos, etc... Sure, none of those is a discrete 7.1.4 system, but this is how it always works. Most people are fine with "OK" audio, while us Audiophiles take things as far as we can to get better sound. Think about the number of devices capable of playing DSD. It makes Atmos seem pretty mainstream :~) El Guapo, bobfa, jiminlogansquare and 1 other 4 Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
