Mark Labbett
just got one of these and it will not do DSD1024 it will do everything up to DSD512 but shuts down if DSD1024 is selected, in Foobar it gives an error "Unrecoverable playback error: init_asio_static_data failed: cr = -5" but doesn't close down, driver is in safe mode. because of the simple filters used by foobar DSD512 only uses 9% cpu so the Foobar DSD converter should be able to handle DSD1024 on my computer it has the latest firmware installed anybody else having this problem Link to comment
stefano_mbp
According to specs this seems expected https://www.denafrips.com/specs-ares Stefano My audio system Link to comment
Mark Labbett
the latest firmware update resolved this(yes ihave the updated firmware installed) i can do 1536Khz PCM just not DSD1024 Link to comment
giordy60
my ares II does the DSD 1024 .... just a pity that it stutters .... my cpu can't do it sistema: Server HDPlex (i7-6700-WS2016) HQPlayer con Ramdisk + HQPDcontrol > Macmini (roon core+Qobuz) o HQPlayer Client + Qobuz > HDPlex NAA (celeron G1840T-WS2016) NAD con Ramdisk, o miniPC Fitlet con immagine di Miska > Denafrips Ares2 , SPLvolume2 > Monitor KH+sub Link to comment
Mark Labbett
Quote @giordy60 what about foobar and the DSD converter plugin ? It uses a lot simpler filters and on my i7 4790K DSD512 only uses 9%! Also what optimizations have you used to get down to 34 processes ? Link to comment
giordy60
@Mark Labbett I haven't used foobar for many years to eliminate useless processes on windows there are some guides on the net that can help, in the end you have to try to remove the last ones one at a time and check that they do not affect what you are interested in. using the cpu at 9% with foobar at 512 is not bad. 😉 sistema: Server HDPlex (i7-6700-WS2016) HQPlayer con Ramdisk + HQPDcontrol > Macmini (roon core+Qobuz) o HQPlayer Client + Qobuz > HDPlex NAA (celeron G1840T-WS2016) NAD con Ramdisk, o miniPC Fitlet con immagine di Miska > Denafrips Ares2 , SPLvolume2 > Monitor KH+sub Link to comment
Mark Labbett
Quote I have noticed that i can't do direct DSD with HQPlayer if in the SDM Pack section i select "none" HQPlayer just closes as soon as i try to play anything i can with Foobar and JRiver Link to comment
Mark Labbett
Problem solved just uninstalled HQPlayer and then re-installed it although a new interesting puzzle has arisen in that the front display of the Ares II now displays 4x and 8x meaning DSD2048 HQPlayer and the ASIO driver panel indicate DSD1024 just the front panel of the Ares II indicates DSD2048 i am in touch with Denafrips regarding this curious matter Link to comment
Brendon
Hi Mark, I was able to get Foobar2000 to output native DSD1024 to my Ares II DAC via DSD Processor, but I all I could hear was hiss and static. Foobar2000 console reports: autoproxy_output::process_samples(channels = 2, sample_rate = 45158400, channel_config = 0x00000003) autoproxy_output::volume_adjust(samplerate = 45158400, latency = 0.000, volume = 0.000) Furthermore, Ares II DAC with DSD1024 output from Foobar2000 is registering only a DSD64 sample rate (2822400Hz), which is odd, like a fallback if DSD signal is too high? Perhaps firmware says it support DSD1024, but it cannot? I'm using the latest drivers for my Ares II (Thesycon v5.30.0.exe, USB MCU v3.12.0.zip). For Foobar2000, I'm using the following components (foo_out_asio+dsd-0.1.6.zip, foo_input_sacd-1.4.10.zip, foo_dsp_src_resampler.fb2k-component.zip, foo_dsp_resampler_mod2_0.8.3.zip). Very curious, did you get it working in Foobar2000, or only in HQPlayer? Link to comment
Mark Labbett
i could get foobar to play a dsd1024 file(up-sampled) but not to up-sample to dsd1024, but HQPlayer did but with drop outs Link to comment
Brendon
Great, appreciate the feedback. Was curious to know if the Ares II reports the 45,158,400 sample rate in the Denafrips Audio Device Control Panel, and what lights appear on the Ares II when playing DSD1024. I imagine only the DSD light is illuminated? Are you able to up-sample to 1536 PCM using Foobar2000? Highest I can go is 384,000. Appreciate any comments you can provide. I trialled Audirvana and was able to up-sample to 1536 from memory. Link to comment
El Guapo
11 hours ago, Brendon said: what lights appear on the Ares II when playing DSD1024 4x, 8x and DSD illuminated. I know it's a bit strange but on HQPlayer's main window shows 1024fs. For PCM 32x or SDM 1024fs I'd suggest using HQPlayer Embedded as the audio engine. The implementation of Linux ALSA is better IMHO. Or using an Intel-based single board computer (running NAA OS) as an NAA, USB connect your DAC. Link to comment
Mark Labbett
mine does the same thing, the lights on the front panel report DSD1024 as DSD2048(32x) i got in touch with Denafrips and after getting the FGGP version they sent me an update, but i have not bothered as i am concerned i might brick it. I am not too worried about no being able to do DSD1024 as DSD512 sounds really good anyway. I did not try up sampling to pcm 1536Khz .Also my computer is an all round entertainment computer (movies, music and browsing)and having something just for music is really not my thing, and as for Linux i am to old to be learning something new i have enough trouble with windows at times.
