iamimdoc
My CAPS "server" is almost ready to go. USB output ->DAC (no soundcard) It is assembled and I need to put an OS on it. I can do XP PRO SP 3 or get Windows 7 pro. I am going to use Mediamonkey (for sure) but might try some of the other usual suspects such as J. River, etc I am not interested in comparing one piece of software to another but prefer to "set it and forget it" and just play the music. On the other hand, one might as well do it as well as possible under my setup/constraints (MediaMonkey and USB DAC) SSdrive is 60GB and ALL music will be on the network, none on the server/player. Machine will be used for little else - probably nothing else in fact. Is the any reason to use one of the OS's over another? Thanks Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
Hi iamimdoc - I recommend going with Windows 7. It will allow you to try WASAPI as well as ASIO whereas XP doesn't support WASAPI. The new J River supports WASAPI, ASIO, and Kernel Streaming.
