Any advise here on how important the PSU is for the server ('control pc') in such a setup?

I'm using the combo

HDPLEX 200W Linear Power Supply (LPS)

HDPLEX 400W HiFi DC-ATX

in my Audio PC (i9-9900K) succesful. Highly recommend.

But my question was about the HQPe server, which send its data to an isolated endpoint running NAA.

Yes, I meant the audio endpoint. For Control PC (Server/NAS) I run a power supply Keces P8. For the Server would probably also be a good switching power supply sufficient. Unfortunately, these have the property of passing disturbances to their surroundings. Since my Server is in hi-fi rack is not acceptable for me. If the Server were in the basement, it would not be that important to me.

However when I boot Windows and run a demanding process (such as Handbrake converting a video file), the system hangs after 10 seconds or so. Maybe this PSU combo is not powerful enough for that?

Which CPU do you have? My Intel Core i9-9900k runs with 4.2GHz on all 8 cores (virtual 16) with

HDPLEX 200W Linear Power Supply (LPS)

HDPLEX 400W HiFi DC-ATX

very stable. There are some settings to be made in BIOS. For example, I have limited the voltage to a maximum of 1.050V.

Which voltage? CPU, DRAM? There are many options in my ASRock BIOS.

Unfortunately, I am not a BIOS specialist. I oriented myself to Gaming Tester on Youtube. The picture shows my CPU Core Voltage setting:

- Adaptive
- OC Voltage 1.100V
- Offset Voltage -0.050V
= 1,050V

Be careful! Always save the working setting under profiles! I would still install the latest BIOS. Before that, be sure to back up the settings to USB Stick. In my BIOS, everything was overwritten with update.

I would love for HQPlayer to handle volume leveling.

I'm using exact this with Roon. Be sure to set "Comfort Limit" to avoid loud noisiness. It's a very good sound!

In my case the digital volume control is sensitive, as I go directly from the Denafrips Terminator DAC to my T+A M10 power amplifiers. I have had a Windows system chime before, where I thought I was right inside the church bell tower.  😄

I control the HQPlayer via Roon. A Comfort Limit can be set there.

You could as well set HQPlayer volume max to -20 dB? Or do you frequently go over it?

Occasionally I let it rip. 🤣Changing the setup of the HqPlayer would be too cumbersome for me.

Since version 4.23.1 HQP OS refused to connect in web interface for me.

4.24.0 the same thing, though it always shows in wired clients list in my router.

Interesting! I have problems with Euphony playing NAA with HQPlayer 4 Embedded 4.24.0.

NAA T + A SDV 3100 HV USB are displayed correctly. Roon does not show any errors, but the progress bar does not change. And there is no music. 🤔

I use a Z390 Aorus Master mainboard with built in sound, which shows (also in Windows) as both Intel and Realtek, see the other screenshot.

Why don't you turn this off in the BIOS settings?

 I have 4 x DDR4-3600 CL19 modules in my Z390 mainboard currently. Can get DDR4-4000 CL14.

MHz: 4000 CL: 14

Which terminal command can I use for a screenshot? I want to save something like "htop" (CPU load) on the USB stick of the HQPlayer OS.

You try Print Screen (Prt Sc) key on your keyboard ? (and see in "Pictures" folder).

Thank you very much, but that doesn't work in @Miska HQPlayer OS. The HQPlayer OS does not have a graphical user interface.

Under Linux there are so many possibilities to take screenshots with varied of applications. What is available in the HQPlayer OS?

Dec 6 2021 HQPlayer 4 Embedded 4.28.0 released!
New CPU core allocation algorithm. Preliminary support for 12th Gen Intel CPUs.

Thank you for the nice Santa Claus present. It works great.

At the moment I have only activated the P-Cores (i9-12900K) to be able to use AVX512. The load is okay. Two cores are pinned for the modulators (approx. 70% per core at 4.0GHz).

SDM (DSD) poly-sinc-gauss-long ASDM7ECv2 12288000/1/2

Under Windws 11 Pro, HQPlayer Desktop 4.14.0 distributes the load on the cores more evenly. What is better now? No idea.

SDM (DSD) poly-sinc-gauss-long ASDM7ECv2 12288000/1/2

With activated E-Cores, stuttering occurs and one core is heavily loaded. So that doesn't work on my i9-12900K

Summary

With deactivated e-cores, HQPlayer Embedded works very well. The sound is very good.

And with the "x64amd" image you can gain some extra performance by forcing full multicore support (and thus likely DSD512 with ECv2 modulators).

The AMD image works with activated E-Cores. 👍 Otherwise I can't see any changes with DSD256.

DSD512 doesn't work for me. Multicore doesn't seem possible.

Done! It works, thank you

I am happy for you. Is there a guide for those not familiar with Linux? With which command do I start the configuration for example?

It’s very easy … login with root then type

useradd new-user

where

new-user is a username of your choice

now run the command

passwd username

you’ll be prompted for a password for that username

that’s all

now you can use ssh using new-user password

Many Thanks. It was actually easy.

Access via my Mac was also easy:

1. Open the terminal
2. ssh Your username@Your IP address
3. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes / no / [fingerprint])? yes
4. password: Your password

Now I can finally monitor some parameters with root and htop. The CPU frequency can also be added:

Does anyone know with which command in @Miska HQPlayer OS the CPU temperature can be read out?

You can find temperature data under /sys/devices/virtual/thermal

Thank you.

intel-corei7-64:~$ /sys/devices/virtual/thermal

-sh: /sys/devices/virtual/thermal: Permission denied

intel-corei7-64:~$

What's wrong?

cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone*/temp

Works fine!

cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone*/temp
27800
67000

Which value shows the average temperature of all cores is shown by this query:

cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone*/type

acpitz

x86_pkg_temp

So the second value = 67.0 °C

Thank you 👍

Nice update today for HQPe OS. hqplayer-embedded-4.28.3-x64amd has all my cores working nicely.

Question for the round. I am a bit at a loss. This version does not run on my i9-12900K. A few cores are heavily used and stuttering occurs. I checked that I am using the amd version and if it multicore = 1. Tested with poly-sinc-gauss-long, ASDM7ECv2, DSD256 from a 24/96 or 16/44.1 stream.

I have had no changes since the hqplayer-embedded-4.28.0.2-x64amd image.

HQPlayer 4 Desktop 4.15.4 on the other hand works very well.

Curious about your kernel version?

Do you mean the Linux kernel? It is the HQPlayer OS = realtime kernel.

Yet I‘m only doing ASDM5ECv2 to DSD256 from 16/44.1

Screenshot from 2020/12/17: DSD512 with ASDM7ECv2 - no problem. I may have to go back to this version.
