iamimdoc
I have a DSD capable DAC but an incapable computer (CAPS 1- too slow, lags, hiccoughs etcm) I am very sensitive to noise and thus want a fanless design, no moving parts. The current CAPS design at $2800 is a bit rich for my blood. I am using Jriver and Jremote and have no desire to change. I do not understand the server, renderer configuration (someone creating a tutorial would be appreciated) so my question is the following: Can a high powered Windows computer ( much cheaper) be used OUTSIDE the music room, connected over the network to a device (a renderer?) thence to a DAC that would function as desired? Total configuration in my mind is Music on NAS-> High powered windows pc with jriver outside the music room contoleed by Jremote -> renderer(?)-> DAC -> preamp. All help appreciated. Link to comment

I use a CAPS v. 3 Carbon, costing over $1000 less than $2800, with both J River and JRemote and play DSD128 files without any problems. I use a NAS located in a different room connected to my network via ethernet. "Relax, it's only hi-fi. Did you read Chris' excellent primer on DLNA ? Computer Audiophile - The Complete Guide To HiFi UPnP / DLNA Network Audio Chris made the point in that primer and in his subsequent refresher (below) that your networked audio experience will only ever be as good as the weakest link in the chain - good luck.
