Amazing travel setup: Dragonfly + Genelc 8010

Recommended Posts

I needed a speaker based setup for an extended sailing trip in the Caribbean.

What I ended up with is nothing short of breathtaking and "Out of the Box".

My priorities:

- Stellar sound quality

- Low energy consumption

- Low weight

- Sturdy construction

- 12V DC capable

The 12V turned out to be the biggest challenge, so I just bit the bullit and got a small inverter.

Final setup:

- Genelec 8010 White active 2 x 25w class D and 1,5 kg each and adaptive voltage 100-230V AC

- Dragonfly 1.2 USB stick DAC with analogue volume

- 150w Inverter 12V DC -> 230V AC

- Minijack -> XLR 3m cable

Genelec sound awesome. I have their 8020 and very happy. They are not as accurate as ATC but very warm and beautifully polished sound. Great on acoustic material. I think their smaller designs are their best. Plenty of bass in a very small enclosure and play very loud too!

Interesting.

I think their larger designs are their best.

The 8260 is especially hard to beat, even with no cost limit.

The 8010 however provides insane performance at 3kg/13lbs (if weight is your restriction).
