AptX transmitters: looking for a good one

Recommended Posts

I heard a neat demo at THE Show in Newport last month on a Roksan Oxygene system. I played a file via Bluetooth off my iPhone and the sound was decidedly "meh". Robb Niemann, the US importer for Roksan, handed me his Galaxy to play the same file and the difference was remarkable and decidedly better than "meh".

Question -- does anyone know what devices currently support AptX? I'd like to get something that isn't a phone.

I am delighted with the reproduction of the Marshall Stanmore, included in Coolhand's link above, for which I thank him for the useful recourse.

I use it with the Kokkia i10s+Aptx. The 's' suffix is important.....no aptx in the i10 version. Works great to stream from iPad and iPhone. These devices do not have aptx built in, but the Marshall has and will recognise it from the Kokkia and then the Kokkia flashes twice every few seconds instead of only once with 'standard' Bluetooth.

Does both ends have to be aptX approved or only the receiving end?

Both ends. If either end isn't AptX compatible then it will fall back to a lower quality transmission.

...in my opinion / experience...

While I agree "Everything may matter" working out what actually affects the sound is a trickier thing.

And I agree "Trust your ears" but equally don't allow them to fool you - trust them with a bit of skepticism.

keep your mind open... But mind your brain doesn't fall out.
