when adding an album to the library it was faster to do a Minimserver rescan followed by a library reload

I also use Synology and Minimserver. I had the same feeling once. I have about 6,000 albums. Rescan + update takes about 3-4 minutes. A rescan + reload takes about 5-6 minutes. So no big difference. 2 hours sounds weired.

I was thinking of a slow router or too low wifi speed but then both ways should be slow. Could it be some files that are corrupt and keeps spinning?

I tried previously to connect my dac with both USB (to use with dsd) and AES (for pcm). It did not work which was explained by @wklie. Now I got a second dac (Marantz SA-10). I’m happy to see that is possible to connect my Aesthetix Romulus Eclipse with AES and SA-10 with USB and use SA-10 with dsd and Romuls with AES for pcm without disconnect the cables when using one or the other.

At the same time I’m a bit curious why U1 Mini have an option in the app to disconnect the spdif/AES output but not the USB connection. If this was possible I could use one dac connected with both AES and USB in the same dac and just open the output from Lumin I want to use instead of changing the cables.

for my uses, and my family the Lumin app on the iPad really works well

I am a bluprint of that no matter if I play from my own library (approx 6000 ripped cd's stored om Synology/Mini server) or via Qobuz.

In my view Lumin's app is offering everything I bred at this time. I have ordeted U2 Mini which I hope I will get in May. I cross my fingers that the app will work as well also with U2 Mini. What I should like is the possibility to turn off/switch outputs that I do not use. In that way I could could connect USB to my two dacs by switch via the app instead of switching the cables

Anyone using the U1 to upscale?

Yes, I did it constantly to 24/192 (to my Aesthetix Romulus Eclipse based on Burr-Brown PCM 1792A. The difference was not huge but a bit calmer in the upper register. I also tried with dsd64 and dsd128 which pass the dsp via a xilinx gate array to run pure dsd via lp filter. However, this gave some ”tics” and ”pops”. If this was due to U1 Mini or Romulus, I do not know.

Now I bought the U2 Mini and I convert/upscale everything to dsd128 without any issues of whatsoever. On top of this I like the sound better. The sound stage has calm down substantially without losing details. Of course this is also up to personal taste. A friend of mine like the pcm better for his rock music taste. I play mainly jazz and classical music and favour the presentation from dsd128 that comes closer to what I enjoy from SACD.

we now support Qobuz My Weekly Q on Lumin hardware.

Yes, this works but I got other problems with the new update with iPad but not with Android.

The search funktion does not work any longer in Qobuz. Search music in my NAS (Synology/Minimserver) works fine. This is what the screen shows when I search. It does not matter what I search. The same screen shows up. I tried to restart my iPad yesterday and then it was OK. But today it is the same problem and it does not help to rebooth.

Another function is also out which are the links to Allmusic, to the NAS/Qobuz in the box. They normally appear to right in box below.

Maybe there are other issues as well after yesterdays v8.0 update(?). On my Experia mobile everything works as before.

How do I solve this @wklie?

First try is "Update library". Doesn't work, clock spins for 'ages' then no change

This is how I do it using Lumin U2 Mini

  1. Upload or rip an album to an external HD
  2. Open the album in Mp3Tag and check/correct/add tags to my structure.
  3. Save
  4. Make a backup to another HD
  5. Make a copy of the album to my network NAS (Synology)
  6. Open Lumin app and make a Minimserver Rescan (the Lumin will go offline during this time, roughly 1-2 minutes for rescan 60,000 files)
  7. When the rescan is ready (off line text is out), I go back to Minimserver in the Lumin app and push Update Music Library - which normally take 2-3 minutes in my place.

After the Update I see the albums and date they were uploaded in the tab I have marked below like the albums I uploaded today.

Had enough of this BS. Both Lumin and Esoteric apps are removed from the iPad.

How can you be so sure that it is the Lumïn or Esoteric apps that are the problems? Maybe it is. I can't say. What I can say is that I have no issues of what so ever. Both apps works on Android via Xperia and Samsung mobiles and Samsung Galaxy as well over my iPad.

I follow the Lumïn recommendation set up by using MinimServer (in a Synologoy NAS) and ethernet connection to Lumïn U2 Mini (previously U1 Mini). Everything works flawless and direct without delays playing from my NAS, from TuneIn, Qobuz (and previously Tidal as well) in the Lumïn app. Rescan 60,000 files takes about 1 minute and update with new albums max 2-3 minutes.

Maybe there is something else that is the "BS" in your chain? I do not know of course, but if it is the Lumïn / Esoteric app that is the bad guy it should be the same for everyone to give it a BS title. My experience from digital equipment mixing a number of brands and tools is not the best recommendation. It seems there are lack of standards or that everyone are not on their toes and in line when there continuesly are new versions and updates coming out. Last time I experienced this was with my printer (from Windows Vista time) after Windows 11. It ended up with a new one.

@wklie A year ago or so, you helped me to get out higher bit rate from TuneIn on the Swedish public music channel P2 (Sveriges Radio) on my U1 Mini. Before that I only got AAC 48 kbps instead of 192 kbps. At that time I sent you the link and you sent a new firmware. You also wrote that this will be default in future upgrades.

Since then I bought the U2 Mini and now I’m back to 48 kbps. At the same time the P2 channel now send in 320 kbps. https://http-live.sr.se/p2musik-aac-320 (works also with http://.

How do I do to receive the full quality with U2 Mini/TuneIn?

Thanks a lot @thingswelike. Unfortunately the page does not look like the Lumïn guideline on my iPad. It only offers ”External streaming” (Extern ljudström), which means I can only listen to it on the iPad.

I entered the link on the web site but could attache to a folder. When I push Favorites (see below) above I can see the link but it has no folder and I can’t put it to the General meaning that it will not be transfered to Lumïn. If I make the link to general it does not work to transfer either as it had no folder. I will try the Lumïn guideline via Android and see if that workmout.

I have just managed to use the instructions in the manual

You are my hero today, @thingswelike. I went back and removed the link I put using the TuneIn website. Then made a restart using Android and now it worked following the guideline you gave me. It will probably work also with iPad. At this time it is only 48 kbps. The higher resolution 192-320 kbps is used by the channel mainly on live broadcasts. I will check tomorrow evening when they broadcast Donizetti direct from Metropolitan.

Next challenge is to find an put in a nice avatar and to put in place.

It's shows as 48kHz 16-bit which is different to the bitrate

Of course… wrong track again… Then my question to @wklie in the first place was also wrong. What was correct is that P2 has upgraded to AAC 320 kbps.

On top of this I convert everything, pcm or dsd, to DSD128 to my Aesthetix Romulus Eclipse. That works excellent from U2 Mini with their new processor. This was not the case with U1 Mini. I know there are different views on doing that, but I have to trust my ears. Me and pals tested back and forward half a day on the different options. There was no doubt on our conclusions with U2 Mini together with my Romulus Ecips dac.

My Lumïn U2 Mini got an update today with firmware 15.4. I checked on Lumïn”s homepage, but there only 15.3 appears.

For me it is a hygenic matter to know exactly what you have done/changed/upgraded. After all I let you in to my gear and I think it is fair that you inform owners what you have done, @wklie.

Changing the default way MinimServer presents the information to controllers such as the Lumin app requires you to get the paid full license option

I do not have full option on MinimServer but my tunes are played in order from net streaming or from my NAS. That kind of issues (for ripped or downloads), I fix in programs like MP3Tag editor where I can change/add playing order, album title, main artist, improved image of album, genre etc. Its an excellent tool for keeping good order in your catalogue and in the presentation on Lumin.

I've noticed a disproportionately high requests for Jazz

I’m one of them…

Around the globe you find tons of radio channels dedicated mainly to rock, pop, ”middle of the road music”. Only in Scandinavia I guess we have more than 100 radio channels (local and national) that put rock/pop on top. For jazz/classical/blues/soul there are just a few channels or channels that play jazz 1-5 hours per week.

I guess that the rock/pop fans are quite happy with the supply on their favorite music. This could be one explenation…

There will be no going back once you hear it with your Lumin.

How do you know it is not the dac that is improving what you here? Or other parts in the combination, or maybe other things in the combined chain like grounding, power quality...? When you connect things there is a chain that is impacted, not only one piece.

I have no doubt Berkeley is a good USB cable, but is it only impacting the U2 Mini? I'm not so sure...
