Has anyone tried to power Lumin U1 or mini with a battery? It would seem that it would eliminate all the issues with external PSU.

On a different note, does anyone know how to create multiple playlists on Lumin app? Every time I try to enter a new play list it just tries to change the title of the old one. I would like to have different playlists for each genre.

Does anyone know if you can search the playlist on the left rather than by finding the track by scrolling?

 

Also, is it possible to save the album, rather than individual tracks on the album, in the FAVORITES?

Do you not find that preamp degrades SQ compared to X1 LEEDH direct into amp? I am debating whether I should sell my preamp. Other than the convenience of a remote, the preamp doesn't seem to be making much SQ difference.

 

I would be curious how many Lumin X1 users use direct to amp. Anyone?

Has anyone replaced the stock fuse with a high end fuse like SR orange on X1? Does it REALLY make a difference?

I also use ESL but Pass Labs X250.5. I am in the process of burning in my X1. (100 hours). I use Don Sachs 2 tube preamp. What amp are you using?

Is anyone using a ground cable to connect X1 to their amp?  If so, can you recommend a good cable?

I don't have any issues, but I recently talked to someone who worked at Pass Labs and is very familiar with X1. I asked him if there is a tweak for my system and he recommended a grounding cable.

In the past, you recommended against putting the X1 power supply above X1. If this due to vibration interaction, how about putting vibration isolation between them? I ask because I would like to save some rack space. Has anyone actually tested whether the power on top actually lowers SQ, or is this a theoretical concern?

Of course if you need the preamp for equalization, switching functions, etc. than the preamp is the only way to go.

 

I've got my X1 going via XLR through an XLR switch to the input of the amplifiers so I can enjoy the best of both worlds by going direct when I use the X1 or going through the preamp / processor when I need the home theater setup.

 

But, PLEASE, don't let this sway you in any way into how to spend your money.  Only your decision and no one else's, other than maybe that of your significant other or your banker, should do that.

I agree with you regarding the shortest path. As I mentioned in an earlier post, some albums require  the extra gain from a preamp. I don’t know if it is  just my system, but I am curious how Jonas Starker Bach cello Mercury label sounds direct to the amp. For me, direct just can’t produce the volume. Let me know.

I may try your experimental firmware. I am trying to verify that I need the preamp to reach the volume level that I like. As I said, for practically all albums, I don't need the preamp to reach the volume of my choice. Compared to having my tube preamp (BAT Rex 2) between X1 and my amp (Pass Labs X250.8), the direct pathway sounds drier and not as engaging. But, I am still trying to confirm this.

I figured out the problem. The EtherRegen that I had upstream of X1 is malfunctioning. Bypassing the ER solved the problem.

I am considering SOtM sNH-10G network switch upstream of my X1. I have the option to have input master clock in 10G. Is this a problem with X1? In the past, you recommended against external clocks since X1 already has a clock.

It is generally believed that playing stored music, let's say on Lumin L1 to X1, sounds better than the same album streamed from Tidal or Qobuz to Lumin X1? Do you think this is true?  If so, how much improvement?

I think the easiest way to test the SQ of stored vs stream is to purchase an album from Qobuz and store it in L1. Then compare it to the same title streamed from Qobuz. May be someone with L1 can test this?

Or is it just there for 'future-proofing' ?"

I compared optical vs and copper ethernet. I found that I like the ethernet connection better. Optical sounded more thin/analytical.
