Hello, With my ever increasing FLAC collection scattered all over the place, time has come to centralize it into a Synology 215j NAS. This NAS has an USB 2 and USB 3 out. I have a NAD audio amplifier with an inbuilt DAC module which has an USB Type B and one TOSLINK input. As of now I am playing back FLAC / MP3's from my laptop connected directly to the amp's DAC module. Can I hook up the Synology 215j NAS to my amp directly with an USB cable and playback FLAC from the NAS through Synology's existing audio interface or do I need any more software / hardware to do this. I have had to install NAD USB Audio Driver drivers on my laptop (Windows 8) to be able to play back FLAC from JRiver Media. Plenty thanks in advance. Looking forward to your inputs.

Hi all, I'm a bit of an audio newbie so excuse my ignorance. I stream gameplay/music online via TwitchTV. My issue is that I game on one PC and stream from another via DVI capture card. Currently the audio is sent from the DAC in my gaming PC (Asus Xonar Essence STX) to a Mackie 802-VLZ3 mixer (combines with xlr mic/music from streaming pc), and the final mix is sent off to the streaming PC input (Asus Xonar Essence STX as well). The music is sent from my streaming PC to the mixer so I can hear it in my headphones. All of this is done with 1/4 unbalanced TRS input/outputs. The quality of the audio on the stream is leaving something to be desired and I think it's because of all the conversions going on. Would I be better off with something like a Tascam US-144MKII or M-Audio M-Track Plus USB interface? Looking at the specs I should be able to combine the XLR mic with S/PDIF output from my gaming PC. Then just use the headphone jack on the interface and send it to my O2 amp/headphones for me to hear. Would the interface work better than my current analog solution?

Is it possible tu use the iFi iUSB power unit with the PUC 2 or PUC Lite models ? The PUC 2 has a special USB cable with two A connectors on the PC side and one B connector on the PUC 2. I presume that the same cable is used with the PUC Lite. Any experience with the PUC and a top grade USB cable ? How did you connect it ?

Hi everyone, This is my first post, not just in this forum, but in ANY forum! So be nice So I recently moved to America from England, meaning I had to sell my nice hi-fi (by nice I mean it sounded great yet was a budget set-up bought all the way back in 2003). I now own a cheap Asus laptop and a pair of Sennheiser HD202's. I love the idea of having my laptop as the "hi-fi" source and I now prefer listening to music through headphones than actual speakers (oh how I miss my Grado SR60's!). I have my music on a USB powered HD, with most music burnt as ALAC, so 16bit 44.1khz. I recently installed Foobar2000, which I love, and at some point I will switch out the mechanical HD for an SSD, but have questions regarding using a DAC on this particular laptop. My laptop (running Win 8.1) has only 2 USB ports, one is 3, the other 2, but they are right next to each other, and according to Device Manager they are under the same controller. And they are the only input ports apart from an ethernet. So would it be detrimental to use them for both the HD and a DAC? (Currently decided on a Dragonfly if I can use one). My optimism has been risen slightly after reading about the Audioquest Jitterbug and the Uptone Audio Regan. Would any of these be beneficial? They're my main questions for now. I know my HD202's are not the first word in hi-fi quality, even though they do sound awesome for the price! But obviously I am looking for a better pair, and am very intrigued by the Audioquest Nighthawk (that's if it ever gets released!). Due to short term financial issues I can't afford anything yet, but thought i'd get my research out the way first. The funny thing is, I love the sound currently as it is, and yes, that means i'm using the laptops headphone jack. I have foobar set up properly, which includes having installed the WASAPI component, but if that is pointless due to no DAC, then fair enough. I've also manually "optimized" 8.1 by uninstalling lots of unnecessary programs and tweaking and turning off some system features. Well if you can't go the hardware route, go software lol! Hope I made everything clear, and thanks for taking your time to read this!
