Some smart lists do not sync properly
Robert Melczarek posted a topic in iTunes and Everything Apple
After syncing multiple times, at least one of my smart playlists on my iPhone doesn't match the same playlist in iTunes on my MacBook Pro. I'm not about to try and see which of my 100+ playlists have this problem. There are songs missing from the iTunes version. The songs are on the iPhone, just not listed in the playlist. I tried recreating the same smart playlist from scratch and that didn't help. What's really confusing is that when I view the playlist on my iPhone in iTunes, it does match. Why would the contents of the same playlist look different on my iPhone then in iTunes? -
Several weeks ago I went through a period where I could not get iTunes12.3.3 in El Capitan 10.11.4 to sync newly created pdf's to my iOS9.3 iPad Air. iTunes had no issue seeing older pdfs to sync from iBooks 1.5 on my iMac, it was ANY newly created pdfs, iTunes failed to see them in iBooks. I called AppleCare, the senior tech I wound up talking to watched me on screen as I would make a pdf and then try to sync it. The senior tech had me do various maneuvers and restarts, but iTunes failed to see the newly created pdfs. She had me pull a full system report, and said she would report it to Apple Engineering. Today, the senior tech called back. She says Apple Engineering says to use iCloud Drive instead of syncing w iTunes12. I am to stop using iTunes12 to sync w my devices. Luckily, in the last few days, iTunes has begun to recognize newly created pdf's again. But syncing w iTunes may be on the way to the technology dust bin. In no way do I want to RENT BY THE MONTH to use my computer w any devices. Maybe Apple will force us all into cloud rental.

I have a lot of tv shows (~500) that I've recorded from over the air broadcasts using EyeTV hardware and software. The EyeTV software exports the recorded shows to my iTunes library as TV shows. I have iTunes set up on my main computer with iCloud Music Library and Home Sharing turned on. That allows me to sync my music pretty well, but not the TV shows. I can access the TV shows through Home Sharing on my second computer and my iPhone, but my wifi network drops the signal a lot so it is not so easy to actually watch an entire 30 minute program using Home Sharing. I tried fixing my home wifi network with a range extender but that was unsuccessful. It would be easiest to have all the TV shows on both computers and have them automatically sync when new TV Shows are added to the main computer iTunes library. One manual workaround is to access the main computer iTunes library from the second computer, select the TV Shows from the main computer iTunes library and "Import". I tried that yesterday with the whole collection and less than 100 of the shows got copied. I can work on that to get the remaining ones over, but it still doesn't resolve the automatic updating issue. I will still have to manually import new shows as they are added to the main computer. Another option I tried was to sync the iTunes folders between the two computers using Resilio Sync. That might have worked, but the actual TV show files didn't get copied over to the second computer. Resilio Sync copied over the folders, but not the files inside. I don't know why. Resilio Sync works for non iTunes folders and files on the same computers. There were also issues with opening the copied iTunes library so syncing the entire iTunes folder is probably not going to work. I haven't tried just syncing the "TV Shows" folder within the iTunes folder, but that might run into the same problems as before where the actual TV Show files didn't copy. Do you know of any options that would work to automatically sync the two libraries? Thanks, P

When Apple first introduced this, I was delighted. The ability to sync any of my devices as long as it was on my local network would be extremely useful. But it doesn't work. Never has. By which I mean reliably, 100%. After all these years Apple seem unable to make this work as it should, so latterly (i.e. for years) I've stopped even trying. But this morning I wanted to add one new app and in iTunes my iPhone is actually listed (iPad isn't though, why not?) so I thought I'd give it a go. So in iTunes I selected my iPhone and clicked on the Apps line/button/link in the left hand list/menu and as per usual, the dreaded "Looking for (iPhone)" message and after some time, as expected the iPhone disappears from iTunes which apparently cannot find it. This angers me beyond belief that Apple fail so utterly in something so simple. Both my Mac and my iPhone ARE perfectly connected to the network and both can happily shift gigabytes of data over that same network. My Mac is wired to a gigabit switch and the iPhone via ac to an Airport Base Station connected to that same switch. In fact, the iPhone is merely 15 inches from said Airport BS and each wired leg of the network is no more than 10 feet. In other words, this network is not being stretched and in all other respects, works perfectly. Except iTunes is completely unable to even find the g*******d iPhone, let alone try and use the network's more than adequate capabilities. Almost everything in this network has at some time been changed/upgraded, yet nothing has ever improved iTunes in this respect, so it's not the actual hardware I'm using. Ever since WiFi syncing was first introduced, it has always failed miserably. Unsurprisingly, feedback to Apple has had no effect, so I've given up. I know I'm not alone in experiencing such difficulties, but if everyone suffered the same scale of the problem, I would expect far more of an uproar about it. So I assume it does seem to work for some people. Or has everyone simply given up? How does Apple get away with such appalling problems with its products? I am not an Apple hater. Far from it, with Macs, iPhones, iPads TVs and Watches I could be described a fanboy, except I stopped evangelising Apple many years ago when they stopped being the great company they once were. But that aside, WTF is going on with WiFi syncing? Has anyone got ANY idea why iTunes is so incapable of basic networking with devices that it was after all designed specifically to work with. Can anyone say they are actually able to use WiFi syncing, with multiple devices, reliably, 100%, every time? If so then please, what's your secret? What arcane rituals are required to make iTunes do what all other networking software seems to be able to do standing on its head. My frustration is because Apple promise so much and if their products genuinely did do what they proclaim they can do, life would be rosy. But so many problems these days. OSX was supposed to deliver us from the horror that MacOS had become and based on unix it would be scalable and reliable. Well it was for a while. Now it's an abject lesson on how to make unix flaky and unreliable. I think Snow Leopard was the pinnacle and it's been downhill ever since. Each iteration adds bells and whistles (that may or may not work as advertised) while the basic core functionality and robustness of unix crumbles away. They now even call it MacOS again. Is that to remind us that it's now overcomplicated and bug ridden, just like the MacOS in the bad old days before OSX? Sorry, ranting a bit, but iTunes' continued failure to use its once much touted WiFi sync has got me all fired up again. Or is it me. Does iTunes sync perfectly over WiFi? For anyone?

Hello Acquired a 2nd gen X3 - happy with it in general - but - I think I have a problem of my own making and having a hard time coming up with a solution 1) In order to overcome itunes limitations with Classical music, came up with a naming/tagging scheme of my own - Worked well with my ipod - allowed me to organize music by composer, also identifying each track/movement etc... 2) However, ended up with pretty long directory and file names - ipod/itunes seems to handle it. 3) When copying those files to the X3 storage, problems start - long directory and/or filenames causes the X3 to lock or not play the file. Problem goes away as soon as file is shortened Short of tackling a massive renaming project of almost 2TB of music, want to ask the group if any ideas come to mind on how to deal with this. Used both Dapper and rsync to copy files - both over USB and straight into the SD card (mounted on Mac OS X) - Dapper did some special character substitution, but problem still remained Very general/open question I know - but I am at my wit's end... 1) Any X3 related tweaks I can try? Tried formatting the SD card as NTFS, but the X3 locked constantly - Any other? 2) Any software to automatically truncate will copying? 3) Any other techniques you know? 4) Most importantly, is my naming scheme stupid? :-( Thanks in advance for your kind help... v
