Not Your Typical Audiophile Downloads And CD Rips...

Recommended Posts

I can think of some redbook CDs that sound so good and are so well engineered that other people would, perhaps, never dream of ripping into an AIFF, WAV or Apple Lossless download into our home audio systems with really good DACs and even on the go with iPod.

One such recording would be Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" -- wow! What imaging, soundstaging, and overall clean sound from a metal recording of the late 1960's!!

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not a "metalhead". :) I listen to and enjoy all kinds of music -- rock, metal, softer rock, 80's rock, contemporary jazz, acoustic guitar solo music, piano solo music, and yes some classical.

I thought it would be fun for some of you to share some more...er, uh,...more obtuse music that you think sounds so good it deserves a place somewhere in computer audiophilia. It could be 80's goodies like Talking Heads, Mr. Mister, Don Henley, or Glenn Frey....or the likes of AC/DC, Van Halen, Quiet Riot.....or the likes of Billy Thorpe ("Children of the Sun", anyone), Vangelis w or w/o Jon Anderson (of Yes)........

Let your imagination fly! Please share your favorite guilty pleasures that you would rip and/or download into computer audio bliss!

Thanks!

Hummm, … excellent sound, excellent music, but not mainstream … tough criteria.

Here are three of mine:

Harry Belafonte – Live in Concert at the Carnegie Hall

This, actually, is a pretty famous concert recording. Get the German 2 CD version; not the USA single CD version.

Early in the Morning -- Peg Leg Sam

"I Got a Home" is so human, so tender, so melancholy. I see this CD was also reissued in Europe last year (no mention of remastering).

The Best of Miss Peggy Lee

She gives me Fever. I see it’s been remastered in 2001; I have the original and think the sound is very good.
