newbie question : streaming PC sound output to Pioneer N50

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've noticed ugly random noise crackles while forwarding the sound output from my computer (whatever the source : web browser, vlc) to the Pioneer N50 via its USB input. Shortening the cable wouldn't help, so I'm looking for something else...

Would it be possible to stream any sound from a PC to the N50 within the same local network ? As if the computer was broadcasting the sound on an ip while the N50 was reading it as a webradio for instance ? Also, as I understand, a music server does not have this functionality.

Thank you in advance,

Try different USB ports.

Try a different cable.

If your 3.5mm jack has an optical output, try using toslink cable.  Note: this used to be very common on older laptops...I do not know how prevalent this capability is on newer systems.

Perhaps different protocols, WASAPI, ASIO...

Some of it might be your MB is just too noisy.  I used to have a laptop where it was known the sound output was horrific...no usb audio then...only the 3.5mm jack.  I used a Soundblaster PCMCIA card was brilliant.

The Pioneer does not have WiFi so perhaps a streamer in front of it...WiiM makes several (I have the WiiM Pro Plus), set up a server on your PC (Minimserver, LMS, etc.) and transfer wirelessly and isolate your PC from the player.

Yes, it requires you use specialised software that can capture the PC's audio & buffer it for streaming over the network using one of the 2 network audio streaming protocols supported by the N-50, ie, either UPnP/DLNA or AirPlay. However, bear in mind that the buffering of the computer's captured audio for network streaming adds a 1-2 second delay to the audio that eventually arrives and gets played by the N-50.

Also, presumably you are using a Windows PC and not a Mac, as Macs have built-in support for network streaming the computer's audio via AirPlay.

Standard UPnP/DLNA media servers, such as MinimServer, don't have the a computer audio capture function - hence the need to use specialised software for this, such as:

- SWYH (Stream What You Hear), which uses UPnP/DLNA for streaming;

- or TuneBlade, which uses AirPlay for streaming.

We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us.
