Visions of Sound Award 2024

The engineering prize for the best immersive mixes

 

Visions of Sound, the event series that brings immersive audio to life in specialist stores for the best sound quality, will be awarding a prize in various categories for the best immersive mix for the first time in 2024. Prizes will be awarded for releases of the year 2023, as well as an "Engineer of the Year" award and an audience award, in which listeners nominate their top five titles.

 

With AURO-3D and Dolby Atmos, technologies have been developed that enable music to be experienced spatially. Dolby Atmos in particular has been widely recognized since Apple Inc. announced in 2021 that it would be included in its streaming offering.

 

The creative implementers behind these formats are above all the sound engineers who, together with the artists, producers and labels, ensure that this new listening experience can find its way to the consumer. While it can be experienced in streaming in a data-reduced form, the full dynamics unfold on the Blu-ray Disc.

 

Twice a year, Visions of Sound presents the new releases on Blu-ray Disc, partnering with home cinema retailers with the appropriate hardware.

 

The award that has now been announced is intended to recognize the best mixes that are also offered to consumers on Blu-ray Disc in audiophile quality.

 

"Since the turn of the millennium, music in multi-channel sound has mainly found its use in the classical segment with surround mixes on SACD. Thanks to Dolby Atmos and the streaming offer, spatial listening is becoming a standard in music production alongside stereo. Be in the center of music instead of just in front! Visions of Sound represents the best sound quality of these mixes on Blu-ray Disc. Reason enough to honor the great mixing performances and the efforts to offer them to the consumer in the best possible quality. This was the driving force behind our Visions of Sound Award," explains Christoph Diekmann, initiator of Visions of Sound.

 

The nominees will be announced at the beginning of April.

Visions of Sound was developed as a presentation event for immersive mixes on Blu-ray Disc in 2020 by the Cologne-based communications agency AREA Entertainment. Twice a year, new music releases on Blu-ray Disc are presented to consumers in the home cinema trade and background information on the technology, production and mixing is provided.
