Offline attenuation

In the past, I tested 4dB XLR passive attenuator adapter and sound was clearly degraded, and I was very disappointed because it is not cheap.

Much better result with attenuating in digital domain.

After giving them a chance, I have to agree wth you. I sent them back as the sound was clearly better without them.

After auditioning it twice (comparing it to an ECdesigns PowerDAC-R and a Musician Pegasus) I have ordered a Holo Spring 3 Level 2 with preamp module. So with that in the chain the SHD will be probably be set to 0dB fixed.

I would not say that: actually the MiniDSP's vc exceeded my expectations, really good!

However, when compared to the Holo Audio Spring 3 active preamp module, the latter had the edge.
